Poor bloke had so many of his frivolous systems breaking down and no access to parts or replacements in the Bahamas. Had to return to the States to keep his floating condominium in some sort or running order. Just wait till they hit him with huge import duties. Bwahahhahahaha. That'll learn him. Wilbur Hubbard |

Well, that's sorta correct.
First, no import duties - we're a vessel in transit, and had proof of it with us - because we told the customs officer that the two boxes, total 125 pounds, had mostly stuff we took back for repair and some Christmas gifts. Waved us right through. Prolly didn't hurt that we'd had a TSA inspection tape all over both boxes :{)) I got to see all of my 4 kids and 6 grandkids, and my father, who likely won't be with us this summer, on the trip, and Lydia got to see all of her 4 kids, and grandson (the reason for the visit) for the entire month. However, we're back on the boat, the rebuilt injectors are installed and Perky purrs like a kitten - apparently they were needed! Heads up on Foley Engines - they suck, big time. Bait and switch for starters, and then they didn't include the banjo bolts or crush washers with the rebuilts, prompting a last-minute search for the parts starting at 8PM Friday night. That it's running tells you I succeeded. Details to follow in a separate post after I get done installing all the new gear, maybe a week if I'm lucky. Off the dock at the kind people who gave us the space cheaply tomorrow at high tide, back in Marsh Harbour before dark, and the installations commence in earnest on Wednesday... Thanks for asking. It's been a great trip, but we both are extremely glad to be home. L8R Skip -- Morgan 461 #2 SV Flying Pig KI4MPC See our galleries at www.justpickone.org/skip/gallery ! anews.com... Major fish kill from the extreme cold weather. Watch your raw water intake(s). Wilbur Hubbard Hey, there, Willy, Thanks for the heads-up. Back in Marsh Harbour, shipping boxes off the boat, off to dinner to celebrate, and the work begins in earnest tomorrow. This PM I'll do some little stuff belowdecks, like install the NEW uniden radio I had to buy because, now, 5 weeks after shipping it to them, Uniden STILL hasn't even logged it, let alone touched it or analyzed or, if needed, repaired it. So much for only a $60-something repair. I thought that a month ashore would have been ample time, but no such luck! New chartplotter and pod (wiring will be a bitch!), with new GPS integrated (the [separate] puck GPS is already in and talking to the Cap'n), AIS and splitter, all of which I'll have to integrate with my autopilot and other gear, new serial cables to go with the 3 additional RS232 ports I had put into my computer while in on warranty for a new BIOS and more USB ports (now total 6), which will have to be integrated to my (new) AIS, Pactor (currently with a USB-Serial adapter) and something else I'm forgetting at the moment, high-output alternator (with spare regulators for my, now, 3 {!} spare 70Amp alternators), new helm radio integrated with DSC to the new GPS/chartplotter and the remote extensions (trying to figure out where I'll put them...), new kitchen faucet (old spray pull-out head snapped off, "lifetime warranty" at HD required sending it off rather than in-store exchange, so I bagged it), new mast-top antenna cable as discussed previously herein, new fuel end for the dink tank, having arrived with a Merc rather than Johnson head, leading to air intrusion, rewind spring for said outboard, and a bunch of lesser junk-chores, one of which is to review one of our 5 backup and storage (music, movies, pictures, regular full backups, yada, yada) hard drives, investigate why our inverter kept flaking on the way down here (maybe the 16.1 V we were generating is more than it likes?), and so on. Looking forward to all that, and really enjoying the sweeter sound of the rebuilt injectors we have (no wind, but we wanted to get off the dock, so we drove the 10 or so miles to here) now... Our goal is to get south to Grenada as weather permits and then work our way back north more slowly, spending time at favorites. We should be in George Town by next week, spend a few days, and then push south to the Turks and Caicos, DR, PR, USVI, BVI, etc. www.tinyurl.com/waynebspottrack |
