I will never be able to comprehend whatever possesses people to take
perfectly good dried cod, rehydrated in good clean water and ready to use
as-is, and then "improve upon it" by soaking it in lye. Yummy! Fish Jello!
Gimme more of that! :-P

Terrible stuff that caustic. Reacts with stomach acid to form salt
water.
