How does smut get on this newsgroup?

Hi,
I'm a little disappointed to go through the posts and see the smut postings.
Anyone else feel the same way? I mean, I'm in the mood to get insights on
boating and listening to the valued opinions of the experienced and good
people ( you know what I mean). Instead, I get (well, you've seen them.
Does anyone supervise this? Or, are we stuck with this system?
Is it the same people that do spamming?

Anyway, fed up.

Or easier yet, just ignore the stuff that offends you.
I'm sure that you tune past things on TV that you
don't care for. You don't buy magazines that are
counter to your beliefs do you? Generally the
subject line will clue you in as to the content, so
untie your shorts and enjoy the good info that is
available.

ps. Ignore anything with the letters JAX in it :)

This is a public forum and anybody can post anything they choose... and

some
obviously choose inappropriate content, whether off-topic or off-color.

Your
best solution to this situation is to dump AOL, get some decent Newsreader
software, and write a few simple filters to eliminate the chaff.

This newsgroup is unModerated. That means that it doesn't have anyone
watching the intake, to keep it On Topic. Most posters abide by the
NetRules of Ediquette sp, but there are a few, that crosspost their
drivel across the complete Newsgroup Lists. the Internet is just like
the real world, and there are always a few "Bad Apples" in each barrel.
Most just ignore them and they go away, but if your finicky about such
things, you can dump AOL, and get a real ISP, and good NewsReader App.
and setup a few filters for your self.

If you belong to several newsgroups you see the same stuff posted across all
the groups. Ignore it, its just backround noise.

ML,
But in all seriousness, in a newsgroup I once monitored from work,
someone gave a link to a web site that they said was of interest. I, like an
idiot, clicked on it. All of a sudden, out of my speakers, at FULL blast, I
had coming. "Hey look at me, I'm watching gay porn" with a disgusting
picture on the screen. I immediately tried to shut down the browser but
multiple pages just keep popping up. I finally shut off the speaker and held
in the power button for seven seconds. Luckily I was in a small two person
office with just my partner present. He himself is a devote religious person
but he was laughing his ass off due to my panic attack. At about the same
time a female came up to the door and knocked. Picture me trying to cover
the screen with my body while counting down till this computer would shut
off and my partner laughing till he almost cried. I'm just thankful that
this didn't happen in a crowed room. Needless to say I don't click on
unknown sites unless others have comment on it.

Wrong - take a look at the URL.
They are virus/worm postings which download a .pif file.
If you are running a Windows machine and click on one of these your
machine will be owned by the perpetrator and sold to the spammers.

Which you would richly deserve, as such bone ignorance after so many
years of "The Internet" is akin to voluntarily sticking one's genitals
into a running blender.

If you are smart enough to post here, you should know better.
