This question is way off topic, for which I apologize. Someone recommended
KO and a tiny bit of research online came up with Peggy Hall as the creator. I found that she posts to this forum on a regular basis and I'm hoping she will be able to respond. I have a situation where cats urinated on the top of a built-in entertainment center in our basement. The cats have urinated on it for over a year. I have tried numerous products from Nature's Miracle to vineager to remove the odor from the wood. I have saturated the wood with each product. Other than making the odor worse for a number of days I haven't made any progress in removing the odor. Someone recommended KO. Do you think KO has a chance of getting rid of the odor? I don't know how KO works, whether its an enzyme or chemical reaction. If you do think KO would solve my problem, can you recommend an application rate? Thanks Thomas |

Yup...that would be me. ![]() I have a situation where cats urinated on the top of a built-in entertainment center in our basement. The cats have urinated on it for over a year. I don't know how KO works, whether its an enzyme or chemical reaction. If you do think KO would solve my problem, can you recommend an application rate? It SHOULD work. If it doesn't, it's because urine has leaked into places that can't be reached just by spraying the outside of the cabinet. K.O. is live bacteria that "eat" the odor causing bacteria and spores in organic matter. Use it full strength and saturate every surface with it...remove the equipment from the inside of the cabinet and saturate it too. Since it's built in, you can't move it to get behind it or under it, so make sure you get plenty of it into cracks that cat urine ran down into. Let it dry...even put fans around it to provide plenty of fresh air for at least 24 hours. If that doesn't get it, you'll prob'ly have to take some of the cabinetry apart to get at all the areas cat urine has gotten into. Once you've found 'em all, the odor will go away for good. Fwiw, I have two geriatric cats that have accidents, as did their predecessors when they got old. I've used K.O. on the sites for years with complete success. I also used to trade out cases of it with the company who cleaned my carpets...they also had contracts to clean apartments between tenants...using K.O. saved the landlords the cost of recarpeting. Btw...how was it that your cats could have used your entertainment center for a year??? Or is this a problem you inherited from the previous homeowner? And to put this ON topic...K.O. will also eliminate the musty odor from foulies, PFDs, boat cushions, etc...saturate 'em, then put 'em in the sun to dry all day. -- Peggie ---------- Peggie Hall Specializing in marine sanitation since 1987 Author "Get Rid of Boat Odors - A Guide To Marine Sanitation Systems and Other Sources of Aggravation and Odor" http://69.20.93.241/store/customer/p...40&cat=&page=1 |

btw...how was it that your cats could have used your entertainment center
for a year??? Ah... ask and you will learn. ![]() entertainment center is an unfinished utility room where we kept the cat litter boxes. A nice big room with the washer dryer and all. Excellent for storage. I built these really sturdy shelves out of 2x4s and plywood, one of the best things I've done to the house. The cat used them to climb up and lay on the heating ductwork. Didn't bother me, a nice warm place to rest. The the cat had peed on the carpet before and the litter boxes being in the other room and all we figured that the odor was just the normal pet odor you get from having a cat. The smell got a lot stronger and I started investigating and found that the cat had access to the ceiling cavity. It was a mess, which has been pretty much cleaned up. Only way I can see in the cavity is to take a picture of it with a camera. I can saturate the cavity very well with a garden sprayer. I'll try the KO and hope for the best. It's the last thing I'm trying before I seal up the wall and finish the room. Thanks! Tom |

Oops I had one other concern. The bacteria isn't harmful is it? Spraying it
in that large of a volume? Likely buy a gallon and spray all of it in two sessions. The cavity runs about 8ft in length by 1ft wide. A large space. Thanks! Tom |

Wash your hands after handling it and after handling anything you've sprayed it on. Likely buy a gallon and spray all of it in two sessions. The cavity runs about 8ft in length by 1ft wide. A large space. You shouldn't need more than a gallon, if that much. -- Peggie ---------- Peggie Hall Specializing in marine sanitation since 1987 Author "Get Rid of Boat Odors - A Guide To Marine Sanitation Systems and Other Sources of Aggravation and Odor" http://shop.sailboatowners.com/detai...=400&group=327 |
