Prisons are progress, but boring as hell. MSNBC devotes a lot of time to prison docos. Must be real cheap to film there. Best way to avoid the crims is to go sailing. But watch who you select for crew. --Vic |

"Gordon" wrote in message m... Solution? G Oh, I dunno. Stop jailing people for victimless "crimes," perhaps. But considering that housing prisoners is a hugely profitable business, their lobby probably won't allow that to happen. |

Seems like the drug eradication program isn't working. Cheers, Bruce in Bangkok (bruceinbangkokatgmaildotcom) |

Seriously, the drug thing is out of control. Is the Dutch method better? I dunno. I'm not even sure what a victim less crime is. Not wearing a helmet on your bicycle? Seat belts? Madoff? The heck with it. I'm going sailing for a couple days. G |

Making a product so highly desired by folks illegal forces enormous distortions in society. This may manifest as violence. It surely manifests in crimes such as burglary which hurts those who may have no interest in taking drugs. Make drugs legal and you end up with almost no need for police, empty prisons, folks safe in their homes, no motive for drug dealers to try and hook children, no more girls moved into prostitution to feed an expensive drug habit - it'd be a new and better world. But those who are religionists won't have it and neither will the police, politicians, prison employees, etc. who profit from all the misery. |

It sounds like a powerful argument.... until you remember that the prohibition people used similar arguments to outlaw booze. Has their crime rate changes as a result? Cheers, Bruce (bruceinbangkokatgmaildotcom) |
