US and Europe reach agreement on Galilieo Frequencies.
 

Everybody has now agreed to the frequencies and encoding for Galileo. So 30
new birds for navigation beginning in 2007 ( OK maybe 2008).

Here is the backup to GPS. Similar system different frequencies and
different encoding.

The nay sayers will immediately say they may be jointly jam able...But that
is likely to be true only in a very small location. It is of course
possible that a real bad sun storm might take them both out...but there goes
LORAN as well. Note that everyone is coming up on power so jamming will
become much more difficult.

So goodby LORAN and likely sub 1 meter navigation by the end of the decade.
And with enough redundancy that failure is pretty unlikely.
