Does anyone have a list of questions? A boat buyers list? If I wished to, I could work one up but why bother? You'd need to inspect the boat anyway because sellers lie often unintentionally or through ignorance. I suppose you could likewise work one up. Also what you work up depends on the specific craft and class of craft. Back to the uselessness of a list to ask on the phone what the boat is about. If the owner admits shortcomings, he'll also lower the price so you'll wish to see the boat because you can take the money saved to replace the shortcomings. If the owner lies out of deception or more likely ignorance, then you'll need to discover that on your own. Frex, if an owner says the standing rigging is perfect, you'll need to check it out yourself anyway so why bother to ask? If he says the standing rigging is shot, then the price will be lowered accordingly and you'll wish to see the great bargain. What I'd do as ask the guy to tell me about the strengths and weaknesses of the boat. Let him make the list. Ask your questions from there. |
