Removing tar?

Hi all, new to the group, any suggestions on removing tar from the floor of
my aluminium that I just bought to rebuild?

Mineral spirits (a.k.a. "paint thinner") will do the job, as will
lacquer thinner or one of the full-strength citrus solvents.

If you don't want to expose yourself to who knows what fuel additives,
use charcoal lighter fluid. The is no reason to believe there is
anything in it but hydrocarbons.[give or take a bit of red dye.] Those
gas pumps have always been labeled 'for use as motor fuel only'., and
back when the stuff was leaded, it really was bad news.
