Always wanted to learn to do that. I do all kinds of other sewing and
knot work. I'm going to have to find one at a tag sale or something
and reverse engineer it.

Learn to crochet. Make the first project mittens without thumbs.
Then increase the size of the hook.
It all starts with a simple slip knot.

There have been articles in Wooden Boat about doing this. Plus, buy
The Ashley Book of Knots and you'll have many, many times more project

Once learned, crochet (the commissionaire's knot) can be used for
almost everything. My granny told me I could crochet a suspension
bridge, if I wanted to.

It's strong, safe if done properly, and easily unfastens.
