fastener cutting
Are there tools for cutting old fasteners (5/16" dia bronze) from the
inside of hulls? If so, please advise what I can use to cut flush to the inside of the planking. I am adding new frames before hauling to through fasten with new. My boat has a fiberglass skin and I do not want to break the skin anymore than needed. I have been using side cutting disks on a 4" grinder. It works...but is slow and messy. It would be great to find a shorter electric or pneumatic hand held to do the cutting. thanks for help marshall |

dremel tool with cut-off wheel = small hand held electric.
or if rivets, use drill to remove head and tap/pull out. "MarshallE" wrote in message ups.com... Are there tools for cutting old fasteners (5/16" dia bronze) from the inside of hulls? If what you're needing is to cut flush against the planking and throu the existing fasteners, I think that a Fein Multiimaster with a flush-cut blade will do the job easliy and well. It's a very high quality tool, with price to match.

I second Jim Conlin's suggestion of the use of a Fein Multimaster. He
is right, they are expensive but once you own a Multimaster you will continually discover things it can do that no other tool can accomplish. If you try to cut with a long blade in a sawzall you are going to damage the surrounding material. On the Fein you will have to install a metal cutting blade. Joe |
