Has anyone in the group used moisture cured urethane to repaint spars?
Please tell us about it. Were you pleased? How much prep is required? Is it a final coat or a primer? Sprayed or brushed? Thanks. Joe |

Thanks. Joe We've used System Three's Water Based Epoxy paint for spars, both rolled and sprayed. Results were excellent provided the relative humidity was above 40%, anything lower than that it dries far too quickly. As the RH is rarely that high in our area during paint season we don't normally use anything other than 2 part LPU. Standard prep... Sand to clean metal; acid etch; alodine; anti-corrosion primer; top coat. Brian C |

Thanks. Joe We've repainted all our spars (Eolian is a ketch) with Interthane Plus (now called 'Perfection) 2-part urethane. We are very pleased with the results. The paint went on beautifully, and is extremely hard. After several years, I can also report that it weathers very well. As a side note, I paint cars as well, and this paint system very much resembles the urethane-hardened PPG Delthane that I use. bob s/v Eolian Seattle |
