Where to Sell Boat Plan Package on eBay?
I have a complete set of drawings and construction details for the ENDURANCE
35 (both strip plank and ferro cement) that I want to sell on eBay but I can't find a catagory where interested builders might find the ad. Most every catgory is for model sail boats or magazine plans. Does anyone have any recommendations.. No, this isn't a shameless advertisement but your welcome to read it as such. :o) Steve s/v Good Intentions |

Thanks. Those are the two that I noted during my search. They both seem in
appropriate but the only place I found with small boat plans. I think I'm just frustrated that they stuck Boats in the eBay motors main catagory.. I objected strongly when this happened a couple years ago.. Kinda makes me feel like they are sticking all the boats and gear on the back corner of a used car lot. Ya know what I mean?? It seems that there would be enough boats and equipment for sale that they would be entitled to their own main catogory, just like cars and real estate.. Steve s/v Good Intentions |

Beware the legalities of onselling used plans. These plans were purchase with license to build one boat. I have never built that boat.. There shouldn't be any problem selling them to anyone else. Steve s/v Good Intentions |

Actually, in looking through all of the paper work and correspondences, I
don't see any License Agreement. Bare in mind that these plans are the result fo a design competition sponsored by the Intenational Amateur Boat Building Society (iabbs). Followed by promotion, sale and distribution. As a submitted entry for the second 'iabbs' design competition this Peter Ibold design would have became the property of 'iabbs'. However, no where on the drawing or 'iabbs' liturature do I see any copyright markings or notes. Therefore I have no reservations about selling these drawing for the purpose of building that 'single' boat. Steve http://hood.hctc.com/~esteve/private...ndurance35.pdf |

I'm not sure of what safety regulations your talking about.. ABYC, USCG, ??
The boat designs that I have dealt with never got down to such detail. These element are left to the builder wisdom and discretion.. Even if your talking about fastener types or material, that is also left to the builder. Load and passenger capacity plate? Nah! not applicable in a 38 ft boat. Steve s/v Good Intentions |

I also do most of my shopping on ebay using the search engine and have good
results. I will admit I'm often surprised at finding a nice piece of boat gear of nautical cruising guide in some totally unrelated catagory.. However, it is also helpful to have the item in and appropriate catagory to 'catch the eye' of someone just browsing around. I suspect that the majority of impulse purchases are from browsing rather than searching.. I'm talking about the guy who never knew he was looking for a set of sail boat plans.. ;o) Steve s/v Good Intentions |

I think that as a designer, the only safety regs you have to follow are the
USCG rules, which have less to do with boat design than they have to do with systems and things like loading and powering. If you're a manufacturer, then following ABYC guidelines are a good idea since there is a lot of court precedent that says if you don't, then you chose to be liable. As anybody with a boat, buying or building or owning, following ABYC guidelines makes good sense since most if not all were derived from real-life issues and experiences. Anyway, this is how I understand it. I'd love to be corrected if I'm wrong... Brian "Steve" wrote in message ... I'm not sure of what safety regulations your talking about.. ABYC, USCG, ?? Two things of note concerning eBay: - You can't just pull something off ...it's a contract to sell and sell you must, unless you get zero bidders. Same thing with placing a bid. It's a contract to buy and you can't change your mind unless the seller volunteers to let you off the hook. Go bid what you think a fair price is. - You often never see a price get touched, other than an opening bid, until the last 30 seconds of the auction. People use sniping software to place last minute bids rather than run the price up while waiting for closing. Think of the few days that something sits there static as an advertising period, and the last 1 minute of the auction as the bidding period (grinz.) I like Auction Sentry and have purchased several brand new items for my boat at half the usual catalog price, or less. A Bid to buy is binding but eBay allows sellers to cancel auctions, even if
there are bids on the item. Here's their policy: A seller cancelled all bids and ended an auction early eBay policy currently gives any seller the right to cancel all bids and end an auction early. We encourage sellers to post an addition to the description of the auction explaining why they have ended the auction early. However, this sometimes this does not happen. If you have any additional questions about why this happened, we suggest you email the seller and ask them directly. If you think a seller may be abusing this policy, you can report the situation to us through our webform. When sending us an email Be sure to include all relevant auction numbers and User IDs.
