I wanna build 'er the ol' fashion way.

While it is relatively easy to make an intelligent person appear ignorant,
it is impossible to feign intelligence.

Try to find 'Building Classic Small Craft' or 'More Building Classic
Small Craft', both by John Gardner.
You'll find more traditionally planked Dories than you can build in a
lifetime. The plans are not full sized, of course, but Gardner has
included offsets in most cases, so they can be lofted.

Well, you could also try "The Dory Book" by Gardner too!

I don't own it myself, but I guess it fits the bill even better.

Just asking: is it a compilation, containing the dories from the books I
mentioned, or does it contain new material?

"The Dory Book" was prior to the small craft books. As I recall the
dory book has more technical details then the small craft books.
It explains every aspect of building a dory. Apple crooks,
scantlings, bevels, offsets, lofting, sail plans, it's all there.
Check with your local library. If they don't have it they should be
able to borrow it through the inter-library exchange program.
Get all of them.

I have all the Gardner books previously mentioned. Often he exerts the

fact that old fashioned materials are no longer to be had. For example wide
pine boards for garboards. He recomends using marine plywood instead. I
would suggest getting all of his books. You will spend days pouring over
the designs. Often he relates information in one type of craft to another
such as changing the stem construction...etc. Dory's come in all sizes and
shapes..what did you have in mind?

Not to mention that dorys always leaked, often had cracked garboards and
cracked transoms. The good old days were not that great! They were a cheap
expedient; epoxy and plywood have made them better than they ever were.
