Their website is www.suwaneelumber.com or Aircraft spruce east at www.aircraftspruce.com in Peachtree City Weebles Wobble (but they don't fall down) |

I called Suwanee, on the phone they said only Fir in marine-grade. I should have said I wanted 3/4", Aircraft Spruce only stocks up to 1/2", makes sense for aircraft! I think I'm SOL for a local supplier. Have you tried Atlanta Hardwoods over in Cobb county? I haven't checked them for marine plywood. A guy at Lowe's told me they can special order marine ply but I haven't explored that any further. What are you building and what part of town? I am over in Lilburn and building a trimaran. |

Laminate the desired thickness out of layers of thinner Okume with
epoxy... I'm building a boat with 3 layers laminated Okume (cold molded) together... Stiff and strong... Better than a single sheet of plywood... denny |

A guy at Lowe's told me they can special order marine ply but I haven't explored that any further. What are you building and what part of town? I am over in Lilburn and building a trimaran. I live pretty close to Atlanta Hardwoods so I tried there first. The first guy I talked to showed me the marine grade Fir and told me it was Okume. I'm no expert so I asked another guy there who I think was the owner or manager, he said it WAS Fir, said they do not special order plywood, and then gave me a very nice tour of the warehouse showing me possible alternatives. It seems they cater to custom cabinetry and woodworking crowd. They have an amazing assortment of veneers. I know I'm looking for something out of the mainstream but I want what I want. Sorry, no boats, I'm just building some heavy-duty containers for some equipment of mine, but I figured this group would have the best suggestions and I have not been disappointed. I'll either just use Fir and glass the hell out of it or go with Denny's suggestion and laminate some thinner sheets, maybe with a layer of glass in between. Thanks everybody |

You might try working through the listings at
http://www.glen-l.com/resources/lumber-suppliers.html Or doing an online search for okoume plywood (an alternative spelling). Akston wrote: Does anyone know anyplace in the greater Atlanta area where I can buy marine-grade hardwood plywwood like Okume or similar? |
