New Found Metals makes the best ports for the best price anywhere.

Maybe so, but be warned if you special order ports with 10 mm glass it
may take 5 months to arrive from China, have gaskets that do not seal
completely, and holes for through bolting that do not line up.
Oh................ And then NFM says you are wrong and do not tell your
story or they will sue you.
Could be the person handling my special order was having a bad day.

Personally, I think the AMERICAN made Spartan ports are super and only
25 bucks more. My advice: You may be fine if inspecting a stock NFM
port closely and then buy it. Do not trust NFM with non-refundable
special orders. They hold all the cards......... your credit card.

It's great when the marketing department gets wind of things, isn't
it?

Are Spartan portlights not made of bronze? There is a world of
difference between bronze and stainless steel. I realize that there
are various grades of SS but I think NFM must be at least 316. Bronze
can be anything they want to throw in unless they are designating it
as maganaese bronze? and even then?

When you say the holes do not line up do you mean that the ring which
secures the port from the inside does not line up with the hoiles on
the outside of the port?

I bought 19 ports a few years ago from Lewmar. They were made of
extruded aluminum. What a mistake that was. The acrylic has crazed,
swome of the plastic has split. I have to caulk them regularly. I
just wish I had bought some NFM stainless ports.

I remember seeing the NFM ports at boat shows and it seems to me they
are of cast stainless. I do not know much about metalurgy but I
believe it one hell of a lot more costly to cast stainless than to
fabricate with extruded stainless.

I have been thinking about replacing my Lewmars with NFM and I can not
say that you have dissuaded me so far. The Miami boat show begins
tomorrow and I intend to have a very close look at the NFM. I'll ask
them about your complaint and see what they say.
