Model Materials

Hello

I'd like to do a 1/4 scale model (of an Atkin design - Shoals Runner
http://www.boat-links.com/Atkinco/Ut...alsRunner.html
using 1/2 inch ply for frames, with some kind of "plywood" for the hull
panels. I hope to build a variation
of this design in aluminum, but there are a thousand details to work out.

Last year I made a model of Rescue Minor
http://www.boat-links.com/Atkinco/Ut...scueMinor.html using 1/8
masonite. The masonite didn't do very well on the tight bends, can't be
fastened near the edges, and is ugly.

What is needed is a bendable sheet material, which can be fastened with
drywall screws, as well as duct tape (temporary) and glue (permanent). It
would be nice if it looks good, or will take paint, as with a few minutes
extra attention the model will make a nice book-case, perhaps even provide a
visual aid in selling the project to "she whose whim is law".

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I just bought 4 luaun "door skin" at Lowes home supply store. I know you
can find 1/4 ply there too. Anything thinner should be found at specialty
hard wood retailers.

There is a product called model ply. This is a birch ply from Finland and
is available in thicknesses from 0.4mm up.

Hi
It is very simple, you find a supplyer of Aero Veneer. It is ultra thin
high quality plywood (remember it's also possible to manufactor plywood
into a top quality), anyway this product are the favorite sheet
material model building.
It go in quarter millimeter 0.25 halve millimeter and two millimeter ,
the 0.25 are 3 layers still. It is perfect for reinforcement for thin
Epoxy work easy and can even be cut with sisors , also the most common
failure in amature model building, is to chose a material that is
infact to thick compared model scale, better use even thinner panels
--- best with a reliable frame structure.
