I wanna build a boat
I want it to be a 37 foot Junk rigged Sailing Dory
It will be plywood and epoxy, and built to liveabord and sail. It will be built to a Jay Benford design .... Any thoughts? steveb |

What have you built before? This is not something to be taken lightly.
How many people are going to work with you on this? steveb wrote: I want it to be a 37 foot Junk rigged Sailing Dory It will be plywood and epoxy, and built to liveabord and sail. It will be built to a Jay Benford design .... Any thoughts? steveb |

A few, at times when they are needed ... fear of getting it wrong is quite likely to hone my skills. I will get a marine surveyor to check as I go along. I don't actually take it lightly :) |

Yes,I always wondered about this J. Benford dory design.
It has been said that a banks type dory is not good for sailing. I wonder if that means that it is slow or that it isn't as fast as a catamaran or..what? The Benford design is advertised with a book about a couple who built one and sailed to Antarctica. Annie Hill I think. Have not read this. Joshua Slocum built and sailed LIBERDADE from S. America to the east coast. The boat was modeled from his "recollections of Cape Ann Dories". For simplicity of building, a dory seems a great advantage. Never sailed one though. SteveJ William R.
