Heat Exchnagers

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to maintain my heat exchangers? I know
they are in need of some maintenance and I would like to find some
instructions on how to clean them and with what, and replace the zincs.

Thanks

Houston

Generally:

- replace the zincs annually or sooner if they are disappearing at a rapid
rate. Don't use telfon tape on the threads because that will electrically
insulate the zinc from the body of the exchanger negating it's use

- replace coolant every 2-3 years, or as dictated by your engine
manufacturer. flush with fresh water at least when doing so, then replace
the coolant.

- might consider de-scaling the radiator every 5 or so years but don't do
this if the temperature gauge is maintaining the same operating temp of the
engine.
