help wanted with two spreader questions

Hi

I plan to use two (?) old mast spreaders to stiffen a gate post and have two
questions:

1 - how do I determine the best angle of the spreader to the pole? I know
it's not 90 degrees.

2 - any suggestions where to find old spreaders for sale
