stiff fabric?

i'm out of date and i want to not layup a bicycle chain cover. one
suggestion was using window screen covered with foil. The idea led to
wondering if a fiberglass fabric was currently available that would
bend into shape and hold the set for resin, as window screen would.

does such fabric exist?

maybe if you put just a little resin in the fibreglass to stiffen it a
bit. let it cure, then bend it to shape like window screen. never tried it.
just an idea.

NTTBOMK

Cut a form from old styrofoam, cover it with plastic sheet, drape
with glass, laminate with resin.

Or, use wire window screen, bend into shape, paint with resin, cure
and then add a layer of glass, or not, and keep the wire screen as
structure, sealed inside.

You could also cover a wire form with plastic sheet basted on with a
needle and thread, etc.

This "stiff fabric" concept might have some possibilities for boat
building. Simply use copper screen maybe aluminum screen supported at
intervals with a wood form, cover with glass cloth.........

@#@ Yes such fabrics are available. There are hundreds biaxial, axial.
unidirectional, multiaxial, with all types of coatings for numerous apps.
Check it out.
