Port gaskets

I am looking for a source for ROUND gaskets for my bronze ports. I
have found the square ones at Defender but the grooves in the ports
are round and the square ones don't seat well no matter what I do. Any
sources will be appreciated. Chuck

You could try a decent hardware store. Not a Home Depot but your
local hardware store. The have different size sheets of neoprene you
could but gaskets out of.

What is the diameter of the "gasket" material you need? If I understand
correctly, you need the stuff that fits into a groove in the bronze
casting, around the perimeter of the glass. There is round, vinyl
material called "spline" that is available in a number of diameters as
used in window screens, storm windows, etc. Home Depot and Lowes have it
in three or four sizes from about 1/8 inch to around 3/16 inch diameter.
I believe window screen/storm window shops have it in a greater range of
diameters.

FWIW,
Ed

Can you use O-ring material?
http://www.oringswest.com/
Either O-Rings or just O-Ring cord stock and glue it.

Bruce September 27th 04 12:53 AM

What you want is called an "O" ring. Go to any store selling seals
(look in the Yellow Pages) and you should be able to locate what you
want. If you can't find the exact diameter you may need to buy a "O"
Ring Kit which contains the proper thickness material and allows you
to glue up the correct diameter ring.

Totally off topic:

"Maynard G. Krebbs!" Wow. There must be very few of us left out here who
actually enjoyed that great black and white show. And to think it's star
went on to be the great Gilligan. Nice to see you Maynard.

Downwind Marine (downwindmarine.com (619) 224-2733) in San Diego has this
material. If your ports use the stuff that I am familiar with, the seals
are hollow... almost like tubing. As such, O-ring material probably will
not work. If your material is solid, then you can buy material that is
used to make custom o-rings by the foot from Mcmaster-Carr (mcmaster.com
catalog page: 3234) It is called o-ring cord stock.

Hope this helps

lol, Some young kids recognize it because the "Life and Loves Of Dobie
Gillis" was on Nickelodean sp. That's what the 13 year-olds were
telling me while lightsabering the crap out of me when playing Jedi
Outcast online anyway.

I like the name since I saw the show as a kid and have been using it
all over the usenet and web for years.

Thanks to those that gave me some good leads. The original seals are
solid. But they are also 22 years old. Guess they did their job. The
square replacements I am finding are hollow and just don't get a good
seal. they are about 3/8. Chuck

Chuck: You might try here. They are aimed toward Catalina owners, but they
might fit your situation.
