I thought this might be of interest to someone looking for rot resistant
wood. I have a friend who purchased a sauerkraut factory - complete with tanks! He has about 50,000 board feet of old growth cypress ~(1-3/4 - 2)" x (6-9)"wide x (11-16)' long. There are peg holes in the side and a few nails. He tore out a couple of tanks to have a look at the wood - it's beautiful! The growth rings in some of the boards are about 1/16" apart. The tanks were built between the 1900's and the 1930's There are also some newer tanks made from old growth douglas fir and red wood. (saw some of the douglas fir and looks very good) He originally wanted to sell the whole lot at once and have someone come in and tear the tanks down, but he decided that since there are no time pressures to remove the tanks - he'll let go of it in small lots (it will be lot easier for him to remove one tank at a time). I don't know what he's asking for the wood - but if anyone's interested, I'll provide a contact. Gregg |
