Scotty, Katy, Bob C and all the rest of my adoring fans....

The kid is fine....he'll be 4 this September

The boat launches in about two weeks. She has a new genoa now and
upgraded folding prop. We can't wait for the season to start.

Also finished the theater....I think I did a good job. I did it all
including the curtains.

http://ghostlight.zenfolio.com/img/v3/p386883400-5.jpg

HD projection, 130 inch screen, SVS sound and subs. But for
music....Magnepan 1.6/QRs, Martin Logan subs, all tube electronics
including the Jolida CD player. Everything has been modified to suit
the room which is also acoustically damped.
http://ghostlight.zenfolio.com/img/v3/p911144058-4.jpg

If you like Jazz and classical, the system is stunning, but for rock I
usually use the SVS system.

We're thinking of trading the Kia in because we want another AWD.
Problem is that the Kia (after 39K) has never needed a thing. We can
only go down from the Kia unless we get another perfect car.

We're still planning on a new boat, but that's lengthy topic on it's
own.

Here's a pic taken from our home aboard one of my new telescopes
(Celestron CPC 800) and a piggybacked camera....
http://ghostlight.zenfolio.com/img/v3/p677285558-5.jpg

Suzanne hit 40 years young and really worked out to get fit and trim,
probably the best shape she's ever been in. She's a babe and I'm a
lucky guy!
http://ghostlight.zenfolio.com/img/v2/p493591262-4.jpg

It's beautiful here. The wife and kid are thriving. Life is good.

I hope all of you are well.

You're waiting now for the season. If you couldn't wait you would move to
Florida.

It's definitely curtains for that system!

Yes all tubes! Including the CD electronics! Bwahahahahaha!!!!

If you like Jazz and classical, the system is stunning, but for rock I
usually use the SVS system.

The wall socket can be stunning too. That room is too small for good sound.

We're thinking of trading the Kia in because we want another AWD.
Problem is that the Kia (after 39K) has never needed a thing. We can

So you're trading it in because it is perfect? Wait another year or two and
you won't be able to trade it for anything, even an old rusty pocketknife!

We're still planning on a new boat, but that's lengthy topic on it's

At 40 one has to really work out to get fit and trim? Is 40 the new 60?

It's beautiful here. The wife and kid are thriving. Life is good.

Is it as nice as Kew Gardens?

It's great to hear things have improved for you. I'm sure your arm strength
has improved greatly from tossing papers on your new route. Your new,
powerful car audio system should be able to drown out most of the car noises
in your Kia, possibly even the sounds of the axle bearings seizing. Have you
managed to hacksaw the ball hitch off of the end of your house? You don't
want some pranksters driving off with it in the middle of the night. With
the crash of the credit/real estate market have you been snapping up any
more lakefront property? Well, not to be all mean I have this gem for you
and you are one of the few to appreciate it - in fact I thought of you when
I first saw it:

You're waiting now for the season. If you couldn't wait you would
move to
Florida.

Why on earth would I want to trade a beautiful fall and winter season
of fun for a hot horrible season where people sail even less than here
in the winter? Kerplap!

Yes all tubes! Including the CD electronics! Bwahahahahaha!!!!

Yip. Jolida, modified by Underwood. Tube output stage. I also have a
good SS SACD player, but the Jolida is far better. Tech-SMACK!

The wall socket can be stunning too. That room is too small for
good sound.

Well then so are the sound rooms at Revel, Infinity and Martin Logan,
which I've been to. They are smaller than my 25X16 foot room, which is
now damped to perfection. Come to think of it so are the carefully
designed rooms at Sound by Singer and Wilson Audio...maybe my room is
too big! You should help those guys out! Booblair!

So you're trading it in because it is perfect? Wait another year or
two and
you won't be able to trade it for anything, even an old rusty
pocketknife!

Trade in value against an AWD MDX is just 2000 dollars less than the
Sienna we almost bought. The only problem is that the Sienna would
have cost 2900.00 more at the time and would have had half the
features and less power! So when we trade we SAVED 900 dollars with
the Kia, had more features, a higher safety rating and no problems! I
know two people with Sienna's now. One had MAJOR front end problems
and the other got a new tranny (under warranty) at barely 30K. After
the new tranny the Sienna is still plagued by problems. Toyota has
slipped! Chazoom!!!!

This time get one with a cockpit larger than mine.

Still pretending to own a boat? How depressing! SLAP!!!!

Not as good as my custom Meade I bought at CES last year.

Your right! None of my real toys are as nice as your imaginary
ones!!!!!! HoooAHHHH!

And......ROYAL DELUXE SMACKDOWN DONE OLD-SCHOOL!

Cheers, Bob. Hope your well these days. My paper route generated an
ungodly income over the past 9 months and I'm looking to buy a 3rd
property now. So not much time to play here, but I expect during the
summer I'll post some pics and vids of our daysails and weekend trips.

Oh....and because I actually back up what I say....scope #1 fitted
with a D300.....this is my portable grab and go scope that I use
most...

Please don't use the word "tranny" in ASA, Bob, it attracts Gayanze like a moth

You're right. I wasn't thinking. I meant "transmission."

"After our long term test neared completion, we admitted we were sad
to see the Sedona go. It had topped both the Odyssey and the Sienna
for comfort and required only a single service visit for the video
screen. The Toyota spent almost two whole weeks in service and the
Honda had electrical issues on three occasions. If there's one area
Kia needs to improve on it may be in detail and refinement. The Kia's
powerplant and transmission, while powerful, didn't exhibit the silky
smoothness of the competition. Still for real world usage, the Sedona
remains at the top of our list and made us question the higher costs
of the Sienna which provided fewer options. The Sedona has also held
onto it's stellar safety record besting all other minivans and most
small trucks in crash tests."

Things are going well. I'm looking at picking up some work after taking
almost a year off. Over the last year I put my miles on my bike than my car
with the hopes of racing again. I rode the hardest bike race course in North
America (3x as difficult as any stage on the Tour de France) twice in a
week, twice besting my previous times from over a decade ago. My running
mileage is up too, so I'll try a full size triathalon. I've got the
landyacht set up to work out of so I can travel, climb, bike and work. I'm
down to 2 boats and one has a cockpit much larger than yours. The kids are
fine, the wife is gorgeous and we are all look forward to spending a few
more months in Europe this year. It was nice to see the America's Cup races
last year, this year I may do the running of the bulls but in the other
direction - against them.

It's hard to argue against the Kia. It got chosen as the "Best Budget

I don't need a hole in the boat as an excuse for it to sink. I've sunk boats
with perfectly good hulls! Boats larger than either the canoe or kayak. The
first sinking of a perfectly good boat happened during a Chinook wind storm
with gusts to a mere 90 mph. The second was during a small F1 tornado. I
purposely went out to sail in those conditions to gain first hand
experience. Now, from my great experience, I avoid those kind of conditions.
I have developed a rule of thumb which I shall now divulge to the benefit of
all: "If the wind blows tractor trailers off of the highway, don't sail in
it." I have many rules of thumb carefully developed from first hand
experience. They range in such fields as electricity, winter mountaineering,
firearms and gasoline powered tools. Humanity would be served well if I were
to write detailing my experiences.

Glory!

Bob Crantz

Rule of thumb #217: If you really have to force the bolt action of a rifle
closed to get the cartridge in, it may not be a good idea to pull the
trigger.

Rule of thumb #104: If you hook a bunch of neon sign transformers in series
to maximize the output voltage, wear very thick insulated gloves when
plugging it in.

Rule of thumb # 63: Do not substitute a scuba diving mask for goggles when
getting towed on a sled behind a car at 65 mph.

Yes, that must explain why the Sedona beats the Sienna in customer

spend that extra few grand and get....a inferior crash rating, crummy

Customer satisfaction is better measured by the number of cars sold rather
than quizzing people who have invested in their car. Sienna sells many times
over Sedona and there is a reason.

Of course you can
spend that extra few grand and get....a inferior crash rating, crummy

Yet with these glaring drawbacks people continue to buy Sienna over Sedona.

Tubes -hahahahahahaha!!!!! aaahahahahaahahaaaa!!!!! Tubes are a joke
unless you like colored sound. Higher noise, prone to magnetic inteference,
high temperatures, impact noise, thermal noise, noise, noise noise! Why
aren't tubes used in front ends? Noise! Tubes are a step up from spark gap
radios. Wave a magnet around your tube amp and see what happens. You can't
even get a decent set of matched tubes, you need tons of compensation
circuitry to get a balance! Tubes - aahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaa!!!!!!!
Oh yes, move your tube amp to a different location and it will perform
differently. It's not much different than using the CRT on your television to
amplify audio signals: high voltage, heated electrons having to travel
through vast regions of space to impact a metal plate - Flash Gordon
technology! Do you hear the squeal of Emporer Ming's video set when you turn
the thing on? Hey - let's build op amps with tubes!!!!!!!!!!

Double reverse suplex!

Well, at least your not ashamed to sound ignorant. All sound is
colored, dummy. The minute sound waves hits air it's colored. The
point of tubes IS to color sound. Like most rank amateurs you're

circuit that I had installed. There is no audible noise or distortion.
Sorry. You're a Yugo owner trying to discuss M car handling. It's
leaving a visible stain on your pants and thereby exciting Ganzy.

Trading in the LGT soon, though the modified AWD is now doing in the
1/4 mile in under 13 seconds! These tires cost more than your boat!
Suzanne wants to keep it as a safe little commuter car, but we'll see.

roups.com...

Well, I've got a grandson now. Kids bought a Nissan Quest
minivan, seems nice. Been working on my old BMW bike and
waiting for warmer weather to get it, and my boat back in
action.

Congrats on the grandson. Take some good pics.

thanks, got tons, but parents don't want any on the net.
When are you sailing down to the Ches. Bay?

Scotty

Not this season I'm sure. We'll be bopping about locally and sailing
to Mystic a couple of times to stay with friends. We missed sailing to
Great Gull Island last year (It's a research station I used to
volunteer for), so we'll try again this year. The problem is the
holding right around the island is poor for just about everything, but
a fishing friend says he knows a good spot for our boat.
If you get near City Island drop me an e-mail and we'll go for sail.
Maybe I'll hit a rock for you!

Robbie,

You need to warm up, just like your tube amp, to even measure on any scale
about tube knowledge.

Well, at least your not ashamed to sound ignorant. All sound is
colored, dummy. The minute sound waves hits air it's colored.

Air in your tubes? Guess what your ears aren't perfect. They are unbalanced
in amplitude, frequency and directional response. Any audio optimization is
to your ears, not someone elses. The mechanical operation of the ear as a
speaker is fairly crude and worsens with age. All that stereo junk doesn't
fix a thing. The channel separation of your ears isn't that great either due
to bone conduction. So tell us what you can detect.

The
point of tubes IS to color sound.

Yes it is and I said so. The make great musical instrument amplifiers. Got a
whammy bar on that stereo of yours? Fuzz pedal? Do windmills with your
speakers?

Like most rank amateurs you're
utterly confused about the differences between a system that is
emotionally involving to listen to and a highly accurate system.

I prefer accuracy. Precision is emotion, raw and unfiltered.

You
also have no knowledge of how better systems tame common harsh
recordings.

What is harsh? My $39 Sanyo boom box can tame a harsh recording too!

As to noise? What noise? Measureable noise? Audible noise? My system
is isolated by power conditioners and it's own independent house
circuit that I had installed. There is no audible noise or distortion.

The noise comes from the tubes themselves. It is inherent in their
operation. Tubes are not used in low noise circuits. Prove me wrong, show
me some verifiable low noise tube circuit that have noise lower than
equivalent transistor circuits. The noise and distortion is there and you
can hear it plain as day. With no music input, turn the volume up all the
way - do you hear silence? Or noise?

Sorry. You're a Yugo owner trying to discuss M car handling. It's
leaving a visible stain on your pants and thereby exciting Ganzy.

You have no concept of electronics, circuitry, physics of noise or the like.
This is like Edward Teller discussing nuclear physics with a housewife
baking brownies. You should pull your skirt up over your head and run away
in shame.

That's wonderful! I'll be driving the same vehicles I have now 20 years from
now.

"As I pass through my incarnations in every age and race,
I make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market Place.
Peering through reverent fingers I watch them flourish and fall,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings, I notice, outlast them all."

In 20 years will your LGT still go 1/4 mile in under 13? The satisfaction
from my vehicles will be even more in 20 years! Economy and durability will
win in the end. Contentment is everlasting, thrills are not. Beauty and
strength are fleeting, character and principle are forged into the soul.

Yes Robbie, those tires probably cost more than my boat. You traded your
soul to get them.

Robbie,

Knowledge in practical usage of hi end audio gear that you've owned?
Prove it.

The channel separation of your ears isn't that great either due

to bone conduction. So tell us what you can detect.

Compared to a Bryston 4B with a SS preamp and Musical Fidelity CD
player, my tube based system creates a more 3 dimensional sound stage,
sweeter less fatiquing highs and the best midrange I've EVER heard
from a planar design. MY ears are the final decider, which is why you
have no argument of any kind and no real point.

I prefer accuracy. Precision is emotion, raw and unfiltered.

Once again you speak from ignorance. 95% of all recordings are badly
recorded, or are very flawed in the mix or worse. You want a deadly
accurate system? I already owned it. Awful unless I came across a rare
superb recording. No I have a system that is 90% as accurate but
renders lesser or older recordings far better. The result is that more
music sounds great. Keep in mind that I still own high end SS gear for
my theater and can compare. There's no doubt that the tube based gear
is simply sweeter and more musical.

What is harsh? My $39 Sanyo boom box can tame a harsh recording too!

No it can't. And you don't know what harsh means in HEA? Nuff said.

The noise comes from the tubes themselves.

It's not audible compared to the SS gear I have side by side with it.
That makes you wrong. There are hundreds of reviews of tube gear and
rarely does noise get mentioned as an audible issue. My Metis preamp
produces less noise than my B&K SS pre at max volume. Neither has
audible noise when actually playing. Sorry, you're just wrong.

You have no concept of electronics, circuitry, physics of noise or the like.
This is like Edward Teller discussing nuclear physics with a housewife.

There are guys who study numbers and think they have a clue. A ton of
bad audio gear was designed that way. The amp you listed is a great
example. Did you hear one? Do you know the intracasies of it's design
and have you experimented with it with various planar designs? Of
course you haven't. You have NO clue and NO practical experience
because you have NO gear of any worth and you listened to NO gear of
any worth.

That's wonderful! I'll be driving the same vehicles I have now 20 years from
now.

That's a drag. You have my sympathy.

In 20 years will your LGT still go 1/4 mile in under 13? The satisfaction

Sorry....I have durability where it counts...in my family and friends.
I don't expect to give up thrills in any exchange. I also have
economy, but where it counts. So, you see...I enjoy both and my soul,
thrilled and uplifted remains intact.

Anchoring at Great Gull Island wouldn't be much fun. Surrounded by
lots of rocks, and not much in the way of protection. You would be
better off anchoring overnight in West Harbor on Fisher's Island, or
better yet, Coecles Harbor, which is very protected and has it's own
nature preserve to explore. Much more interesting and beautiful to
look at. You can always do a daysail and picnic to Great Gull if you
want to stop there briefly for old times sake. It's not far from
either West Harbor or Coecles, and could be a place to stop over
between those two, far more desirable anchorages.

The research station is still active and I'm friends with the
director, which is why I want to visit. I'll figure something out.
Docking is not an option as there's not enough water. I used to come
on a 40 foot trawler and even that was pretty dicey. There may be
better holding near little gull and I could dinghy over from there.
But I'm nervous enough about the currents and holding to not try it on
anything but a calm day.
