Help needed sailing Halifax to Jamaica

hi guys, i am writing a fictional story about someone who sails from
Canada, Halifax to Jamaica, based on a friend's real journey. i have
been reading lots of sailing books but i can't seem to find much about
this particular route. I would be graciously appreciative if any
sailing experts around here could offload any knowledge they possess
on this subject. many thanks.

The "wrong way" route.

It is said It's easier to sail to England, then Africa, then Jamaica,
given the gulf stream, trade winds and seasonal storms.

Traditionally, each leg could also yield profits, while pleasure
sailors seemingly (those who rehearse by tearing up hundreds while
under a cold shower) only enjoy boasting about their maintenance
costs.

Unless you take the inside route down the ICW, another bag of eels if
you are relying on sails.

Sounds interesting, anyway. Why do it?
