There has been a monthly average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theatre of operations during the last 22 months and a total of 2,112 deaths. That gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000 troops. The firearm death rate for civilians in Washington D.C. is 80.6 per 100,000 persons, for the same time period, 22 months. That means that you are about 25% more likely to be shot and killed in the Capital of the United States, than you are with our troops in Iraq. Conclusion: Let's Pull Out of Washington D.C. Its nice to see that Vito is taking advantage of one of the many Rights that our brave men and women in uniform are fighting to protect. Namely, the Right to be Extremely Stupid. This is a math problem that any 7th grader should be able to figure out, but it seems somewhat beyond Vito. If the monthly death rate is 60 per 100,000, that makes an annual rate of 720 per 100,000. The annual murder rate in DC is about 40 per 100,000, depending on the year. Thus, the odds of being killed in Iraq are about 18 times higher. |
