You don't need a boat to post in here. For most, having seen one while
crossing a bridge seems to sufficient. In fact with access to the internet
anyone can claim to be a sailor.. even you! What kind of boats do you sail
in Oklahoma. Arghh! sailing across the Oklahoma plains with the wind in your
tooth must be very exciting...

Actually, it's use would be good offshore as well as in crowded harbors.
For instance due to seperation distance, closed up wheelhouse, weather,
etc., you may not readily hear the signal...

If you take the time between seeing the light and hearing the sound you can
tell how far away it is. Count the number of seconds between and that is how
many thousand feet away it is.
