President Ford was a very good man. All that Chevy Chase stuff is a
bunch of crap. The greatest thing Ford ever did was to pardon another
good, innocent man: Richard Nixon. He should have pardoned Spiro Agnew
also another innocent good man.

Naw, Nixon and Agnew were petty crooks, both of whom should have gone to
prison.

Not entirely. I was working as part of the presidential ski patrol
contingent at Vail when he and his family were there for the better part of
a week. Three of us would clear a slope, wait at the bottom, and when the
First Family made it down to us, followed by four additional patrollers from
above, plus some Secret Service types who were very competent skiers
themselves, we would proceed to the next slope in order to clear it. The
mental image of Jerry Ford that remains in my mind most poignantly is that
he fell quite a lot. So did Chevy Chase when impersonating him.

We had the opportunity to chat with him and his kids quite a bit during
those days. He was a very down-to-Earth gentleman with a great sense of
humor, often self-deprecating. He and his family were quite easy to like.
