I did a number of upgrades including some new instruments. I bought and
installed the Micronet wireless stuff. So far so good. Is anyone else using
these?

Don't have it myself, but sailed with a couple of people who do. The
biggest problem I've seen so far is that they sometimes reset
themselves when off for a long period. Less of a problem IMHO than
running wires, maintainence of same, and calibration problems
associated with wire runs (shorts, surges, impedance match, etc etc
etc).

The next thing I expect hot-shot racers to come up with is a black box
to read the competition's wireless instruments... or maybe a jammer....

Good thing I don't race. (unless there is another boat nearby)I liked the
simplicity of installation and of course doing away with the excess old
wires. They were only a few hundred more than the alternative which would
have involved stripping out all the old stuff and replacing it with new
stuff..wires etc. I did notice that the anemometer reset its self once. So
far i like them. I also like the fact that they can be stowed away when not
being used. So far the installation and learning curve have been fairly easy.

You should try racing. It's fun and it'll make a better sailor out of you. I've noticed
if you try to *race* another boat informally and if you get ahead you'll notice them
starting to catch up again. It's because they turn on the motor as soon as they think
you can't hear it.

Gosh I would love to be a better sailor. You think racing might help? I like
night racing....the noisy turning of empty winches...the progressively
thicker layer of scotch tape across the stern light. Launching those little
glow sticks into the dark with a slingshot....

lights on it so the Frenchies would follow it while they got away? Kewl.

Or for sailors who want to improve their cruising abilities.... You can race anything, cars, trucks, bikes, boats,
bodies or even hoppy toads. Anybody who races gets better than anybody who doesn't. Even if you lose you learn
much more than if you never raced.

Even if you lose you learn
much more than if you never raced.

Open your mind, Scotty. I never said anything about learning to lose. Nobody has
to learn how to lose. You automatically lose unless you win. There's only one winner
but there's lots of losers. It's not a bad thing to lose. It's more normal than winning.
When you lose you can learn if you ask yourself why you lost....

(but who was probably much better looking). But it didn't take long for me to win. It was
when I divorced that stupid lazy jerk. I got half of everything he owned and it was a lot....

He didn't work for it. He inherited it. I worked for my half, believe me. All that
