I did a number of upgrades including some new instruments. I bought and
installed the Micronet wireless stuff. So far so good. Is anyone else using these? -- Mundo, The Captain who is a bully and an ass |

Don't have it myself, but sailed with a couple of people who do. The biggest problem I've seen so far is that they sometimes reset themselves when off for a long period. Less of a problem IMHO than running wires, maintainence of same, and calibration problems associated with wire runs (shorts, surges, impedance match, etc etc etc). The next thing I expect hot-shot racers to come up with is a black box to read the competition's wireless instruments... or maybe a jammer.... -signed- Injun Ear (formerly known as Eagle Eye) |

"Mundo" wrote Good thing I don't race. (unless there is another boat nearby) You should try racing. It's fun and it'll make a better sailor out of you. I've noticed if you try to *race* another boat informally and if you get ahead you'll notice them starting to catch up again. It's because they turn on the motor as soon as they think you can't hear it. Cheers, Ellen --- the captain who is fair and a piece of ass http://ellenmacarthur.badongo.com/album/ |

I like night racing....the noisy turning of empty winches...the progressively thicker layer of scotch tape across the stern light. Launching those little glow sticks into the dark with a slingshot.... -- Mundo, The Captain who is a bully and an ass |

Did you see Master and Commander where they made a fake little boat and put lights on it so the Frenchies would follow it while they got away? Kewl. Racing is for sailors who don't have the time to cruise.

"Scotty" wrote Racing is for sailors who don't have the time to cruise. Or for sailors who want to improve their cruising abilities.... You can race anything, cars, trucks, bikes, boats, bodies or even hoppy toads. Anybody who races gets better than anybody who doesn't. Even if you lose you learn much more than if you never raced. "Scotty" wrote Better at what? Better at understanding their boat. Better at getting the most out of it. yeah, you learned how to lose. that will come in real handy at the next anchorage. Open your mind, Scotty. I never said anything about learning to lose. Nobody has to learn how to lose. You automatically lose unless you win. There's only one winner but there's lots of losers. It's not a bad thing to lose. It's more normal than winning. When you lose you can learn if you ask yourself why you lost.... Cheers, Ellen |

"Scotty" wrote the most what? Your boat, silly.... I suppose it's (losing) natural for you? Only when I married a man who acted just like you but without your sense of humor. (but who was probably much better looking). But it didn't take long for me to win. It was when I divorced that stupid lazy jerk. I got half of everything he owned and it was a lot.... Cheers, Ellen |

HUH?! You say he was a "lazy jerk" but then you say "half of everything he
owned and it was a lot...." Maybe it is you that is the "lazy jerk"? Just asking. "Ellen MacArthur" wrote in message reenews.net... "Scotty" wrote the most what? Your boat, silly.... He didn't work for it. He inherited it. I worked for my half, believe me. All that disgusting animal grunting and groaning alone was work enough just to listen to it. Not to mention the slobbering...
