This post is not a flame. Nor is it a policy memorandum issued by the flonkers or by
net nannies or net nazis. Rather, it is an assessment of how alt.sailing.asa's old timers try to prevent us new subscribers from airing legitimate views and exercising our creative urges via the written word. I assume you already know that alt.sailing.asa tries to make its asseverations more palatable by wrapping them in rhetoric about the need to protect the interests of the old, daft and unoriginal, but I have something more important to tell you. Having said that, let me add that I can say one thing about alt.sailing.asa. It demonstrates better than any of us individually that psychological impact is paramount -- not facts, not anybody's principles, not right and wrong and certainly not civility. I'm not suggesting that we behave likewise. I'm suggesting only that alt.sailing.asa is like a magician who produces a dove in one hand, while the other hand is busy trying to demand that Earth submit to the dominion of what I call unstable meatheads (liberals). We must reach out to people with the message that alt.sailing.asa should stop playing verbal games and tell us what sailing and its life impact really means. We must alert people of that. We must educate them. We must inspire them. And we must encourage them to act honorably. Alas, the opposite appears to be more often the case. Just because alt.sailing.asa and its vicegerents don't like being labeled as "backdoor bushwhackers," "redneck truckers," or "lethargic land lubbers" doesn't mean the shoe doesn't fit. This makes me fearful that I might someday find myself in the crosshairs of alt.sailing.asa's twisted chicaneries. (To be honest, though, it wouldn't be the first time.) If alt.sailing.asa bites me, I will bite back. And alt.sailing.asa's bite is more like being gummed of late. Who is alt.sailing.asa to say that it represents the real needs of sailors? Many people who follow alt.sailing.asa's communications have come to the erroneous conclusion that truth is whatever your grievance group says it is. And everybody seems to have their grievances. The truth of the matter is that certain lame subscribers always try to change the way we think. This annoys me, because alt.sailing.asa's previous changes have always been for the worse. Particularly since the departure of so many notables all of whom were inspired by the single most notable of all -- one Capt. Neal. I'm positive that its new changes will be even more catty.(Katty?) Meaning we all should daydream about Happy Fuzzy Purple Bunny Land, where everyone is caring, loving, and nice. Not only will those daydreams not come true, but alt.sailing.asa was taught trying hard to protect freedom, justice and the American sailing way by hook or crook and frank speech is a worthy goal. Unfortunately, that goal has a hard-to-overlook consequence: it will impact Usenet policy for years to come in the blink of an eye. Whereas alt.sailing.asa formerly stood out as a green oasis in a vast Salton Sea, it now more resembles a fetid stretch of horse latitudinal, wretched, stagnant mer. Although the present iteration of alt.sailing.asa has repeatedly denied charges of attempting to girlify hundreds of people as "pertinacious", I can honestly suggest how it ought to behave. Ultimately, however, the burden of acting with moral rectitude lies with alt.sailing.asa itself. I unmistakably don't have the patience to deal with deranged gits. But let's not lose sight of the larger, more important issue he alt.sailing.asa's garrulous memoirs. The first thing we need to do is to get alt.sailing.asa to admit that it has a problem. It should be counseled to recite the following: I, alt.sailing.asa, am a neo-pusillanimous, unreasonable lost-its-way schmuck. I have been a participant of late in a giant scheme to make PC correct and bigotry disrespectful. I hereby admit my addiction to ageism as well as my predilection towards political correctness. I ask for the strength and wisdom to fight this addiction. I further admit my tendency towards sloth, ignorance and typing silly one-liners appended to unworthy-of-an-answer posts by lackadaisical losers. Once alt.sailing.asa realizes that it has a problem, maybe then it'll see that statements like, "It behaves as if it's been lobotomized" accurately express the feelings of many of us here and all those who lurk have. As stated earlier, alt.sailing.asa can't possibly believe that it is a perpetual victim of injustice. "Woe to us all" cries Old Thom. "Gp away znd leace us alon3" slops Katy. "Ellen = Neal" repeats Gay Ganz. "Duh!" spits Ellen. "Maamaaa" cries JimC. It's just shy of insanity, but it's not yet insane In short, I feel we must bring alt.sailing.asa to reality I hope other thinking members of this community feel the same. (Yes, even three people can make a difference!) Paladin Have gun - will travel -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com |
