Thom-
you lucky one you lol
i think it was a miracle your power stayed on- there's still lots of
people without power here-i am lucky too- i stayed at my daughter's last
night as she has no trees around her house-
but it was scary there too as the wind was pounding at the house- we
thought the windows would blow but lucky they didn't- on the trip home
it looked like a war zone with all the branches down everywhere-
i was happy to see my house standing and even my old barn still
standing-
one of my fences had blown down but that was all the damage apart from
broken branches every where-
i'm thankful everyone is safe here but that was a hard and scary thing
to go through-
this is beginning to be a year to remember for awful weather :) i
wouldn't have minded had you posted bits of my email-

We are still having trouble with our "net
MSN is in Redmond, Wa and they were hit hard.

I'm having trouble with stuff I've got in Memory. They are coming back
but ?????

Hi, Ol Thom,

I'm sure having Katrina flashbacks!

Take care!

Joe,

My Son is the Mountain Man. The first time I went up Mt Baker and seen
the height, it scared the S--t out of me. He took to it like "Duck to
Water"

Mt Hood is a dangerous Mountain, especially a winter climb.

We had a dozy of a Storm out here this past week-end. For the second
time since I sold the Boat, I was glad.

A brand new big Cat washed up one the beach upside down. It was on
delivery from So. Africa. The 3 man crew is missing.

Death traps. That's what catamarans and trimarans are. People who sail them always say they're
safe and there's no record of people dying in them. Lies. Lies and denial. Lies, denial and stupidity.
Trimarans and catamarans are happier upside-down than right-side up. That's a fact. They should
outlaw these boats. Make it a law you have to have a ballasted monohull with a double hull with positive
flotation foam in between. Make them so they can't sink and the ballast keeps them right-side up. Or pops
them back right-side up again if they get knocked over.
Those poor people on that upside down catamaran. They didn't have a clue. But, they shouldn't have
had to pay with their lives.

Cheers,
Ellen

Thom, not sure if you realize it, but you're adding a bunch of blank lines
to the end of your posts...

Also, it's interesting that despite the likely terrible conditions, the cat
didn't sink. I'm wondering if a mono would have survived at all.

When I was down in Belize a few years ago, right after a hurricane, I was
told by the staff of the charter company that one of their 40' cats had been
sent out to sea and capsized during the storm. All hands were lost except
for one person who had lashed himself something below deck. Apparently, all
hatches blew and the water rushing through dragged everyone else out. Still,
it didn't sink.

The modern cats I've sailed have escape hatches on the inside (facing
hulls).

More.....and I have to agree with the statement. It's so loosely
worded.
*****************
Searchers also found locked inside a cupboard a floatable radio beacon
that, if it had sprung free, would have automatically broadcast an
emergency signal to allow searchers to locate it. There were no signs
of a life raft or of cold-water survival suits.

"We don't know if that means there were no extra suits, or that the
crew took the ones they had, or if they had any,'' Eggert said Friday.

Anyone who has information about the crew and how it planned to sail to
Seattle is asked to call the Coast Guard at (800) 982-8813.

Double-hulled catamaran sailboats are fast and lightweight -- and
harder to capsize than some single-hull sloops.
