Sorry Scotty, I have no rust on Redcloud.

Glad to hear it.

.... If your boat hit a raft of
pumace rocks it would sand thru in no time.

??
Strongly doubt it.

If they were red hot they
would just melt thru.

If they were red hot, then the water would cool them quickly
(forming large clouds of steam, possibly).

And apparently you did not realize that fiberglass is widely
used in industry as heat insulation. "Red-hot" and
"fiberglass" play otgether quite nicely.

It's true, ask Jim C...He's seen her.

Doubt it all you want, Ive seen 100+boats that came thru here after
Katrina that were all rubbed thru, but not a one Steel, all
fiberglass...Ask Bart.

would just melt thru.

Most likely.... or and black clouds as the fiberglass burns

Cut the **** Doug, I've jumped off a fiberglass boat and watched it
burn to the waterline.

By pumice???

And I guess it didn't have any fuel or other combustibles
aboard? Fiberglass doesn't burn, period. It's GLASS.... the
melting point varies but is usually quite high and I have
personally worked with fiberglass insulation used in 3500
degree combustion chambers.

Now, the resin, on the other hand... also varies widely! If
you ever saw any fiberglass burn, with NO other cumbustable
material mixed in... then you were really watching the resin
burn.

Had it been pumace it would have been in the 1000's

I've never seen a fiberglass boat that was not held together with
resin....have you?

Damn it was the blackest smoke you ever seen, and after the gasoline
exploded the glass burned like old tires.

Bull****.
If you have ever worked with a sandblaster you know how much
power it takes, concentrated on a small area, to make a
cutting agent work (and all the ones I know of are much
denser than pumice).

I have seen fiberglass boats put together with resin that
was uncombustible... and I've seen fiberglass insulation
panels that would withstand temps that would turn your steel
boat into a puddle.

insulation smintelation, all fiberglass boats are oil products and burn
like napalm.

Your trawler would be ashes before RedCloud even started glowing red.

No, actually they're not. Many are built for the military
using resin that is either non-combustible or actually
flame-retardant.

Probably so, since it was built with common resin. OTOH I am
far smarter than to let it catch fire in the first place.
And steel or not, I hope you do likewise with your boat.

Besides, Red Cloud is 100% certain to rust away,
eventually... very few fiberglass boats will ever catch fire
and those mostly due to carelessness.

Some volcanic output is actually glass strands - fiberglass. Pumice is
softer.

Plus the glass is sharper than steel!

And it doesn't rust!
