I notice that the one in the foreground is carrying an anchor ball so must
have had inadequate ground tackle to handle the conditions. Quite unusual
actually to see a yacht with an anchor ball at all, so the owner must have
been pretty conscientous but his system failed him this time. Looks really
nasty conditions though.
Would be interesting to know what he had down there. Over here we tend to
think that American yachts are a bit weak on anchor gear. Certainly I
replaced the anchor on the Catalina 38 I bought with a suitably sized Bruce
anchor. I would not put a large dinghy on the anchor that came with my boat.
