One of the few things I don't like about the CS is its iron keel. Last
spring I bit the bullet and took the whole thing down to bare metal, put on
a coat of the Interlux primer wash and put on multiple coats of Interprotect
2000E. Just looked at it after hauling. You'd have to look pretty close to
even realize it's an iron keel. Dunno how long it will last, but for now I'm
a happy camper.

Modern coatings are amazing. I'm at over 5 yrs on my bottom job and
just starting to see signs I need to haul.

C'mon Joe. Five years on bottom paint? Your in Texas where the water's hot like in
Florida. Visit an optimologist doctor and get your eyes checked or get thicker eye glasses....
Your paint's dead as a dodo bird. Ain't no paint made can last five years in hot salt
water. You're beginning to sound like Silverback. Or you might be one of his sock
puppets :-)

Cheers,
Ellen

Antifoulant may be dead, but thats not as much a concern to me as the
barrier coat. I can brush or sail off grass growth, but can not put off
rust.

You sound like LP ;0)

Thanks. You could've really hurt me by saying I sound like Katy....
So, how do you see your barrier coat if it's covered with bottom paint?

Cheers,
Ellen

Funny you should make this comment not knowing what kind of paint
the man is using. If he is using a quality ablative as long as he has
paint film it's working.

I'm definitely not a paint expert. And I'm blonde but I'm not stupid. And I'm not gullible. But I talk to people who are paint
experts. Or people who have lots of paint experience at least. You've got to have fresh paint in hot tropical water or stuff will
grow. No paint ever invented lasts five years in hot tropical water. Two years is about all you can expect. That's a fact.
Anybody claiming his bottom paint lasts five years is ignorant. Either that or he's blind.

Cheers,
Ellen

What if he had put 8 coats of ablative on?

Unless he's sailing *all the time* ablative paint dies on the surface. It only comes off and
stays fresh when underway. (self scrubbing - Duh!) It's better for power boats because they go
fast enough to keep the paint scrubbed and fresh. Sailboats don't go fast enough and they don't
get used enough. So there! :-)

Ellen
