My post was about people who 'feel' rather than first learn
facts. For some reason, Red Cloud has decided to use himself
as a perfect example. He immediately 'feels' I was discussing
dielectrics. Of course I was not. But then he knows because
he 'feels' that is what I must have been thinking. So why
does Red Cloud do this? Just another name and reason to
insult others. His name?

Red Cloud® posted using numerous names including
, Ekal Bnek, MaximumSmoke, and
. One poster even speculates that
BinaryBill also posted using the name Ken Blake. He has been
accused by Sirius, VWWall, Thor, etc of using pseudo names.
In a discussion entitled "Computer Fire Starts Flame War" in
alt.computer, others bluntly ask him (whoever he really is)
what his alter egos would think. Previous posts by BinaryBill
- now Red Cloud® - of insults are cited in that alt.computer
discussion at:
http://tinyurl.com/bjk8e ============

He even claimed to work with Grace Hopper on the original
computer called Eniac in the 1940s. Therefore he must know
something... about twisting the truth.

You forgot an important piece of research, dopey. W_tom is a well known
usenet
kook.

Here's what a fellow who posts in a lot of computer groups has to say
about BB:

Heheee. I like your style BB :-))

BB knows computers way better than many of us. He however, doesn't have
the current insight that many of us do who have to go onsite to fix
day-to-day odd problems as he now sits behind a desk as an
administrator. He doesn't have to drive his car an hour to fix the
****-ups the modern AOL user does to their system nor sit in a clients
****ty apartment or cow **** smelling office on a Friday night trying to
fix a bargain brand so we can pay our mortgage that month.

He gets a regular paycheck from corporate. I only get paid by the job if
I'm successful. Different situations require different tactics to solve
a computer problem. That it where like all of my past technical
arguments and dis-agreements with BB have been based on. However, I
generally have learned also NOT to argue like I want to with BB as he
has 50 more years commanding the English language than I have.

However, his arguments have enlightend me and have caused me to change
the way I address a computer problem. I do understand that you don't
have to be an active field tech to generally address field tech
problems.

BB also reads my posts in every group I'm in and has no qualms whatsover
about responding with an _accruate_ correction to my sometimes "off the
cuff" advice. I couldn't afford to pay for that kind of QA/QC and I
appreciate it.

Perhaps that is yet another reason why we continue to respect each
other. Aside from the fact that both of us believe shooting flaming
lighter fluid tennis balls from a homemade Coke Can cannon at each
others garage is a nice idea of a geek olimpic sporting event.

Anyway, I been wanting to say this for a while.

And here's the reactions when I "died":

Book of Condolence

I'm so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. My sincerest condolences to you
and your
family. Bill was a much-valued and much-respected contributor to
news:alt.windows98 and news:alt.computer - and I, for one, will miss his
posts,
dearly. I regarded him as a friend although we never really met. I only
knew him
through his Usenet posts, both to myself and others. But I rarely missed
an
opportunity to read his posts and am forever grateful for his support and
his
(apparently) endless supply of generosity.

To me, Bill was a highly-intelligent individual, never short of a cutting
or
witty remark, but always willing to listen and learn, even from those
without
his vast breadth of experience. Rare qualities indeed, he earned a great
deal of
respect amongst the community. The groups will be very much dulled by his
passing, but he'll be remembered fondly by all who benefited from his
wisdom.

I am honoured and privileged to have been his friend. Rest in peace, Bill.

Eric, please get in touch so that I may "officially" deliver these
messages to
your family, and to pass on any messages that you may have in return.

Sincerely,

Peter C. Forrest

I always enjoyed reading Binary Bill's posts and from day one of my
participation on alt.windows98, I regarded him as one of the gurus. I
would
generally follow a thread he was involved in as I found his posts to be
informative, concise, intelligent, and often very funny.

I am genuinely saddened by this news and will miss seeing Bill's name in
anticipation of reading the colourful and helpful posts I looked out for
and
learned from.

My sincerest condolences for you and your family. this is now a time to
mourn

of
such losses, but that never makes it easy.

I was one of those that said enough to give BB a big chunk of bait to get
all
worked up over, but I really hope he enjoyed the stimulating debate. I
have
respect for everyone, but know that he was able to take criticism.

while we do not know Gods decisions, we merely yield to them, and all of
us have
a time when we will be standing in the presence of God, so better now to
seek to
reach out to God to ask Him what it is He wants us to be doing in the
present
moment. we can find good news and comfort in the bible.

First, I'm quite shocked to have been mentioned. BB was a great man. He
was
definitely knowledgeable in his field, and I am strapped to think of a
time when
I can remember him ever posting something wrong. I can't believe I'll
never see
another of his posts. His posts were always so great, they were blunt,
head on
statements. Never beating around a bush, just flat out telling it like it
was.
And now he's gone. I believe his presence will be deeply missed among the
Alt.Computer regulars. I feel extremely saddened, but yet honored that BB
considered me a friend enough to talk about me outside of Usenet. I will
deeply
miss BB in the Usenet community. Good bye, old friend.

I've been out of the alt.windows98 group for a while, but early on in my
lurking

knowledgeable and "salty" guy. I once asked him about the "sailor" part,
and we
had a talk about his Navy days (I'm in the US Navy myself). Bill was a
great
guy, a spirited debater, and a fountain of knowledge...and from some "OT"
posts
I got the impression he was a great family man and all around good guy. I
offer
my sincerest condolences and in the tradition of the sea I say to Bill

With one thing or another keeping me busier than a one-legged man on a
unicycle,
I haven't been able to spend any time in the newsgroups. Even though I
knew that
Binary Bill was an old timer, hearing about his passing from Doug Schrader
was a
surprise. The depth and breadth of his knowledge and his willingness to
share
made him one of the beacons in cyberspace. We seemed to always come down
on the
same side in many of the spirited OT discussions and his opinions were
always
tempered with the wisdom of time. We had occasion to correspond privately
and he
sent me a picture of himself in full nautical regalia as well as some
links to
archival photos of him and ENIAC at the dawn of he computer age. Recently,
there
has been talk of building a monument to the WWII veterans. I maintain that
this
country, the opportunity and freedom it affords and the technology we
enjoy is a
dynamic and enduring monument to Binary Bill and countless others liike
him.
Rest in peace BB and smooth sailing on your new adventure.
