They're going to christen the new aircraft carrier at Grummon across the
river on Saturday (should be interesting in the middle of a Nor'eater). Both Bush and Cheney will be there (ot's named after GW's Dad, George the First). Guy in the apt. across from us is an acct, for Grummon. He said they'd be moving her to a different berth up the river to fit her out...that will take another 2 years. This is the last of the Nimitz class to be built. |

They have cables and stanchion that pop out of the deck when the aircraft elevators are about to move. They were covered with thick new goobed on graphite grease. They came up and rubbed up the front of my dress white uniform. Funny thinking about it today, but it was a major hassle and screw-up that day to say the least. I always had uniform issue's in the Navy. It's fitting Bush gets a carrier named after him. More so than any other carrier named after a president. After all Bush flew the Avenger torpedo bomber in combat from the carrier USS San Jacinto. He was later awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and three Air Medals for his Navy service in the Pacific theater during World War II. Joe |
