What Joe isn't mentioning is that the severed heads of Buddha, Jesus,
and Mohammad did not appear in the original opera, they were a special
feature in a recent staging. I can see that some might consider it
just a bit provocative in today's climate.

If Mozart or his librettist didn't put it in there, then it shouldn't
be there...some of the recent stagings of operas are
appalling...supposed to be set to attract a modern audience...I have
seen some of Joseph Papp's productions and they were ok, but lose some
of the flavor...it's like when they perform Shakespeare in modern day
times...it just loses something along the way...and personally, I find
it offensive that anyone's representation of their God or Prophet's head
is held up...I suppose they used them all for rqual rights...

You mean like the career of a very popular art teacher in TEXAS that was
just
destroyed after 28 years, because on a school board authorized field trip
to a
museum, that she had been pushed to do by the principal, some students saw
(GASP!) a nude statue.

Many schools have gone to the "Body Worlds" exhibit. It may be that "skin"
is the problem. If you remove it, everything is cool.
Well, as long as Dad's not a Nazi!

amazes me what some artists perceive as art...I know art doesn't need to
be beautiful, but....you have to wonder about the mind it came out of...
