Hey, Mooron...

Capt Rob,
I'm curious, since you obviously spent a lot
of money on your cameras and glass, why you
chose the 50/1.4 instead of the 50/1.2? Or did
it come with one of the bodies?
Regards,
JR

I'm posting this here because it drives poor sods like Gilligan and
Scotty nuts to see anyone with some cash and a good time....

This is my current kit in development. Not all lenses are shown because
I'm trading for new ones currently. But what you see is what I'm
keeping for now.

Nikon D80 DSLR
Nikon D70 DSLR
Nikon 50mm 1.4
Nikon 70-200 VR AF-S
Nikon 18-200 VR AF-S
Tamron 90mm Macro DI
Nikon SB800 Flash
Nikon Coolwalker portable photo-drive
Nikon MB-D80 Power grip
Harbortronics D70 Powergrip
Pelican 1600 waterproof case

Total cost of this kit is about 6K thus far. I'm about to add the Sigma
30mm 1.4 and still deciding if I'll keep the Nikon 35-70mm 2.8 D. I'll
probably add a TC-17 teleconvertor for the 70-200 VR at some point as
well. I strongly suggest the MB-D200 powergrip for your D200, BTW.

Here's the Kit

The little Casio is great for taking pics of better camera gear!

Is that for personal protection or is there something up there to shoot in
the snow at 6500 feet?

All I see is camera equipment (not cash), someone taking photos of it and
posting a list on the internet. Is that a good time?

Just one of my rifles cost twice as much as all your camera equipment.

None
of your optics comes even close to the scopes on any of my rifles.

Plus I carry a fully loaded rifle 6500 feet up a mountainside covered
with
2-3 feet of snow. I rest going uphill and that's a good time!

Your could not even carry that Pelican case of cameras up 20 flights of
stairs without resting or changing hands.

You could trade that camera stuff for a decent roadbike.

6500 feet is the vertical climb, starting at about 7,000 feet elevation.

I actually don't hunt with rifles, I use a bow.

I toured the HMS Belfast. Those English bridges must have been miserable.

I'm guessing you're refering to the Noct-Nikkor 1,2. I've actually used
one on an F2 before I made the switch to digital.

1) It's a manual lens and I generally work AF, unless I'm shooting
macro.

2) The 1.4 is sharper, but on cropping sensors I suspect the 1.2 is
pretty sharp.

3) It's too expensive for a lens I'll not use much. In fact the Sigma
30mm 1.4 is a better pick.

4) In fact, the inexpensive 50mm 1.8 offers pro quality fast glass for
about 100 bucks. The 1.4 has shallow DOF and the 1.2 is really a
specialty lens. I've seen some at star parties on RFTs.
