On the ocean, what is the farthest point
from land, in nautical miles, and where
is it?

Oops! That would be seven.

1- north atlantic
2- south atlantic
3- arctic ocean (formerly arctic sea)
4- indian ocean
5- southern ocean
6- north pacific
7- south pacific

I was thinking there was an antarctic ocean too but I guess the southern ocean is its name.

They changed it in 2000. The ones I posted are the accepted ones now. Look at my link. It shows
them on the globe. There are five oceans if you combine north and south Atlantic and Pacific but they're
separate now. So that makes seven total. Sailing the seven seas? You've heard of that haven't you?

Cheers,
Ellen

There are only 5 oceans. The South Atlantic, North Atlantic, North and South
Pacific are seas, not oceans. Lake Michigan is also a sea. Michigan has more
coastline than Florida too.

I'm helping you humiliate Nescio and you don't stick up for me? :-( Katy was right before 2000.
She needs continuing education to keep up with changes. Do you know there are only 8 planets in our
Solar system now?

Ellen

I've heard of the Seven Oceans. It says so in my Wiki, so it must be
right.

The text I used was copyright 2002 and is the leading text for Earth
Science in the USA...approved by the National Geographic Society...and
the 7 seas is a euphemism for all the large bodies of water...there is
the Black Sea, the Caspian Sea, the North Sea, etc. And of course, we
can't forget the great inland seas...the Great Lakes....
