A 92 foot sailboat collided with a large coal transporter at about 4
am off of Port Jefferson this morning. Just like the crash a couple of
years ago when the crew of a sailboat was thrown overboard when hit by
a large Motoryacht in fog. The captain of that sailboat died.

The three people on the sailboat this time were all thrown overboard,
too. One was uninjured, one was injured slightly and the third was
pulled from the water unconsious.

Once again, I'll recommend that PFD's and tethers are a REALLY good
idea anytime you are in poor visibility conditions, even if it seems
as if conditions are otherwise benign.

I'm a Korean War veteran (Navy) and I'll never forget the time that Jap
destroyer cut our PT boat in two. It was a moonless night in the Solamon
Islands and that thing rolled out of the fog. We had enough time to unload
the quad 50's at it but it was all over quickly. They never came back to
fish us out of the wreckage. We swam to an island and were helped by the
natives. Since we were behind enemy lines, it took over a month to get back
into the fight. Boy, was I glad when they dropped the big ones on Japan.
Here's to all you brown water sailors and Korean War veterans! The drinks
are on me!

What's with this sock and puppet conspiracy thinking about around here? Why are people so preoccupied?

Cheers,

When a man feels he must hide behind a number of masks, you have to wonder
why he's hiding.

Either he's a coward or has something really valuable to lose.

Or something else!

Dave, who posts under his real first name but wisely witholds other
personal
information (a smart move in usenet) is not exactly the same persona in
real
life as he portrays here. Does that make him a sock puppet? Using just
your
first name isn't really revealing much of anything. I didn't know what to
expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. The man loves his boat, and being
on it.
He's a lot more strident and rigid here than he is there. He's actually
quite
reserved and pleasant. He's a lot of fun to sail with. If there is such a
thing
as a "sailing style", ours are quite similar.

Dave is going to need help delivering his boat to it's winter storage yard
in
Norwalk in a few weeks. I told him without hesitation that I would do it
if I'm
available. If anybody else wants to cover if I can't do it, please let him
know.
I'm not sure precisely when he needs to do that delivery.

I knew by your keen wit and really nice pictures that you weren't the rotten
Binary Bill or Krusty that people have seen here. Nor is RB the monstrous
troll he makes himself out to be. He's too smart for that. Captain Neal is a
wonderful man too, Lady Pilot is a good, pious Christian woman. It's what
others read into your posts.

Helping Dave is a wonderful thing and shows you are a genuine, caring
person. Thank heaven for nice people such as you.
