You were bang on regarding the lens. I compared my old glass to the new
18-70mm and the difference in clarity is astounding. Luckily my Tamron 500mm
Catadioptric and 250-500mm f5.6 work very well on the NikonD200. [with the
2x teleconverter it affords me a 500-1000mm f11]

By the way.... with a run through of operating systems and sufficent
familiarization time, I can say without a doubt that it is one of the
easiest cameras to operate. I am amazed by it's capabilities and the photos
are excellent. It takes excellent, clear and well balanced indoor shots,
handheld at night in nothing but normal room lighting with no flash.Without
a doubt one of the best cameras I have ever owned.

I can't believe you don't use yours more often.

I'll post some of the latest pictures to webshots this weekend from my boat
via my new EVDOcard. [EVDO allows a 115kps internet connection anywhere
there is cellular service]

I sold the D200 and the 18-200VR lens to a friend who's daughter is
getting married. He could not get either here and the waiting lists are
long...and I can do without. I ordered a 2nd 18-200VR lens, as I really
love it, but I've ordered the D80 instead of the D200 now. Early
indications are that the D80 will have better higher ISO noise control.
But mainly I just don't feel like spending 1700 bucks again, especially
after buying more glass.
I've made very little use of the DSLRs on the boat, mainly because I
fear for them aboard. The little Casio does the job most of the time.
Next week I plan to shoot my boat sailing and for that I'll use the D70
and 70-200VR lens.
Very glad to hear you're having fun with the new gear.

Is there anything about which this good man isn't an expert?

What an asset to the newsgroup having such a Renaissance Man
contributing.
