Is this common for Beneteaus?
This was an interesting story... happened Saturday night about 10:30. They
obviously didn't bother to look at a chart or they would have seen it clearly marked as "ruins." Beside, they were going about 8 kts, according to a friend who was watching the whole thing from their boat. At first, my friend was concerned that they were going to hit his boat... they were that out of control. Then, barely missing, jibing, and heading out where you can't go, they ended up as shown. Turns out they were all drunk. They did considerable damage to the boat, since where they grounded is all rock. Drunk and stupid... wouldn't listen to advice from anyone, even after they sobered up. They finally managed to get off the bottom on Sunday night when we had a 6.5 high tide about 10:15 or so. -- "j" ganz @@ www.sailnow.com "Joe" wrote in message ups.com... Capt. Drunk and stupid... wouldn't listen to advice from anyone, even after they sobered up. Didn't they see the movie Animal House? Serious advice: "Son, drunk & stupid is no way to go thru life." ...They finally managed to get off the bottom on Sunday night when we had a 6.5 high tide about 10:15 or so. Holy moly, they were there 24 hours? Lucky they were able to make it to work Monday morning. DSK |

If they had just taken the advice of my friend right after the grounding,
they might have made it off right then. They were still at about high tide, and the next high tides weren't high enough. -- "j" ganz @@ www.sailnow.com "DSK" wrote in message ... Capt. He won't drink rum without them. You know the old saying...... if you have a sailboat and claim you've never hit bottom.... you either have never been sailing.... or you are lying! True, but some of us only take bottom at dead low where the channel shoaled, or exploring a muddy creek, or some other benign situation. Others whack charted, buoyed rocks a mile from their slip at full speed, after being warned. And then claim its no big deal, they do it all the time. I had a friend who would qualify as the "absent minded professor" - he would habitually leave his cell phone at the salad bar, or go on vacation with the car door wide open. He whacked rocks so often there were a few named after him! When he brought his boat up to Boston, he didn't fully understand the concept of two channels with a rock in between, and following the "Green Right Returning" rule he whacked "Lower Middle" at 6 knots! The boat, an Irwin 30 that I've mentioned on occasion, suffered a bent rudder shaft, and the engine mounts and exhaust disappeared in a puff of red smoke! Total insurance bill that we all shared was about $5K. |
