Shark are as you know are pre-historic. Surfers look just like seals from below to a shark. Seal is the sharks #1 prey. You can see the sharks in the video are after the surfboard, and drag it under. In other words the sharks are not very smart, but excellent hunters. As long as you do not look like, or smell like prey sharks will normally leave you alone, and at worst strink once... taste that you are not fish.. and leave. When I surf... I use a BIG log of a surfboard... needed by me for Galveston surf anyway. The problem with LIS is water clarity and lots of fish chum from the props, leading to frenzied sharks snapping at anything that moves. Happens here when people are surf fishing and have the stringer of caught fish tied to them. Now go dangle your feet off that swim platform some more.
