That's a 35s5. That's what happens when you spin the wheel to fast
with that R&P steering.

She was abandonned of the Tasmanian coast while leading the Syd Hobart
race in a typical Syd Hobart gale after the keel canting levers failed
and the keel started flopping around.

Looks like a real bummer. Don't they have hydralic rams for the canting
keels? Is that what failed? Have you ever sailed on a canting keel
boat?

Grant decided that keel loss and capsize was imminent and transferred
to another yach which had responed to their PAN PAN and later MAYDAY.

Smart move, bet that makes a hell of a slamming motion and noise.

The yacht wa slater towed inverter to harbour, refloated, refitted and
races again.

Well thats good news, glad no-one was hurt. Speaking of hurt, how did
the surgery go?
Hope all is well.
Joe

All well thanks Joe.
Got a few months of recovery ahead, but I feel better than I have in
quite a while.
