Tell me Marty, have you ever taken up a personal challenge, one where
others had tried and failed yet you were convinced that you could
succeed?

Sure, but not one where failure is probably going to endanger the lives
of others trying to rescue me. Besides, it has been done, both ways, now
he's just trying to set a record. That's fine, but there ought to be
some sort of stipulation that he's on his own or is willing, and has the
financial wherewithal to pay for search and rescue operation required to
bail his ass out if things go pear shaped.

Cheers
Marty

Oh. He's just trying to set a record. Well there you have it. No one
can set a record unless they can pay 100% of the costs if ANYTHING goes
wrong. This will include eating contests, balloon races and just about
anything to do with the ocean.

Nice one, Marty.

Why should anyone else have to pay for it?

... This will include eating contests

"eating contests" are generally not considered a brave
endeavor, Bubbles.

Anytime someone sets out for a sail, they may end up getting rescued.
Costs? I know people who think recreational sailing or cruising is
follhardy. Want them to make decisions for you like Marty?

People have died or required serious medical attention during such
contests. Better make them leave a hospital deposit before trying for
that 60th hot dog.

You'd have to be pretty brave to be in the audience if Boob was entered!

When they make decisions about my money, yes.

Yep. Is that a reason why I should pay for it?

People can jump off cliffs, too. You genuinely believe that
society must bear the cost for all stupid risk-taking behavior?

Tell you what, why make it just for contests? Why not open a
chain of free fast-food restaurants catering especially to
the morbidly obese?
