Merrill Apparently Shot Himself On the Bay

Philip Merrill, the prominent publisher and former diplomat
whose body was found floating in the Chesapeake Bay on
Monday, apparently took his own life after struggling with a
heart condition for more than a year, his family said last
night.

Merrill, 72, was found with a small anchor tied around one
or both ankles and what investigators believe was a shotgun
wound to the head, according to a source familiar with the
investigation. The source said Merrill had bought a shotgun
in recent weeks.

Something sounds fishy.

I read elsewhere where some blood was found on the boat. I
can only speculate that he shot himself while leaning over a
rail with the anchor hanging ?

That some mighty big speculating Scotty.

My guess is someone offed him, dumped him, sailed by shore, put the
boat on a open water tack and jumped ship.......but I'm a speculating
too.

I speculate an experienced sailor would rather drown.... then blow his
head off.

Why's that? Drowning isn't much fun. At least a gun is fast, assuming you do
it right.

Drowning could be very peaceful...and is very numbing.
IMO one of the best ways to go. If ya gotta go that is.

Guns too messy, I wan't to flashback thru my life in review as I head
to the white light. With your brain scattered all over the cabin that
my not be an option.

Joe
*almost* drown once!

Didn't someone here claim, not too long ago, that drowning
was a 'pleasant' way to go?

I wondered if it was a case of the man wanting to disappear
when reading the news article about him a couple days ago.

This doesn't sounds as fishy as the former CIA director who
disappeared while canoeing alone... in January IIRC...

That's what I thought too, especailly with all his
'connections'.

Anything associated with the CIA should be considered fishy.

An Atomic 4 would have been cleaner.
