You're right. The Sony battery already delivered longer play times
after some use. It will probably match the claimed 6 hours after a bit
more usage. Others report that even after many charges the Sony battery
is not slipping. Other units have trouble playing even one movie on a
single charge, yet the Sony plays Gone with the Wind

As for NEC, most big chain stores dropped them due to warranty
problems. This gear is so fragile that a good warranty is a must. NEC
also has poor battery life, lower resolution screen and it's silver.
Last time I looked NEC had to pull thier portable unit out of the
market.
