Here are the facts, right from Joe's own feedbag!

"Your local
weather says winds 21knots with gust to 31, shucks bubbles that prime 9

knot sailing wind on redcloud, no reefs, 100% jib."

Now in those conditions we held just over 10 knots steady, faster than
Red Cloud. The funny thing is that we had Thomas on board and we sure
weren't pushing things. My friend's 1979 J30 was a bit slower, but
still faster than Joe's steel snail. Back at the club a J29 racer said
he hit 14 knots!
Now...let's put this in perspective. ALL of these boats, including ours
have much less WL than Red Cloud and we're all STILL faster! When you
stop to think how slow Joe's boat truly is, it's mind boggling. Now,
imagine light air! Yikes! Maybe Joe should get an 90 foot motorsailor.
That should be faster than a 35s5, right?
Joe has now also admitted that he sails a tiny fast boat to get his
true sailing fix. Too bad he couldn't afford one boat to fit his needs
as we did.
Now, am I saying Dead Cloud is a bad boat? Not at all. Poor Joe has a
fat, ungainly boat, but she was BUILT THAT WAY...not for speed...of
which she has very little compared to most boats close to her size.

Good luck, Slow Joe of the SV Dead Cloud!

Well duh...My labrisa will hit 20+ knots in such wind,

My long term need is to cruise for several years on end bubbles.
Therefore RedClouds fits my needs to a T long term. I do not need
little stepping stones to build my confidence. My voyage, when I choose
to depart, will be Epic compared to anything you will ever do at sea.

Since my office and home is onboard, and other obligations and
commitments keep me from departing now I'm taking my sweet time fitting
her out and enjoying small sails down the coast and a few regettas,
that BTW average 250 miles offshore 1 way. Just getting out on the
water is not a deep desire.

Now, am I saying Dead Cloud is a bad boat?

I'm saying offshore in any weather the 35s5 is a big time loser. But
she was not buildt to go out of the site of land, sure some dare devils
will, but not bubbles.

Not at all. Poor Joe has a
fat,

is a 12' beam fat for a 42 footer? Some 30 footers have 12 ft beams
Robert...sheezeee

ungainly boat,

Trimmed and balanced in 30 knot winds she sails and rides like a cloud.
I can single handle her myself bubbles. So whats ungainley?

A fine ocean cruiser with AC's installed that work while underway,
same with the fridge, freezer, microwave, fans, icemaker, radar, sonar,
TV's ect....just like a home...not a weekend french winnabago camper,
on par to a coleman tent with a porta pottie.

Why pull out the Big guns when a .22 will do day sailing?

Now for fun and weekends I have a labrisa. True shes not an offshore
boat, she is made for conditions that boats like your 35s5 were made
for. Only a fool would take either boats offshore. Both boats are to
fragile and tender, but fun none the less.

Infact my LaBrisa is perfect for the type of sailing you do Robert just
faster, no heavy engine, usless AC's, prop drag and comfy for 4 people.
She's tender like your 35s5 I must admit, so you have to stay on your
toes. We take it out most every day..this time of year the 15:00 -
19:00 time slot has steady 15-20 kt winds everyday like clock work.
looking forward to planing over 20kts soon. The boat is pure sailing
fun, no stick on fakeness involved or needed. For a calm sunset sail to
blasting across the lake ahead of a squall, to sailing to the fine
resturants on the bordwalk the labrisa is hard to beat.

The hull speed of RedCloud is 13 kts.
Whats the hull speed of a 35s5?

My Labrisa can plane...Can the 35s5 plane?

Labrisa Pure sailing preformance

....35s5 prop drag, smelly exhaust, "hot and humid below" complicated,
ugly.

It's just killing you... You and your puppets are green with envy. Just
give it up Rob, you are so out of shape you are going to have a massave
heart attack if you try to acheive my sailing lifestyle. Face it old
man, your hair is balding, your gut is expanding, you are driving a
soccer moms van, and your boat is all french fluff. Soon you will be a
full fledged member of the PTA and the AARP at the same time.

Joe, you expose yourself with every post. There's no reason not to take
a 35s5 offshore if that's the game plan. In fact, with more than half
racing in Europe, many of the races are quite long and offshore.
There's no reason to not take a Catalina 30 offshore either, so long as
you watch the large companionway hatch.

My voyage, when I choose
to depart, will be Epic compared to anything you will ever do at
sea.

Yeah, we hear that all the time. And we also have some nice plans to
set off for longer sailing adventures down the road. But let me give
you a tip. There are plenty of things that can trip you up while you
wait. If you have any love for sailing itself, go today. Don't wait for
tomorrow. In an hour we'll be off for an afternoon sail. I don't need
to cross an ocean to enjoy the wind in my sails. Even a few hours is
fantastic. Every time, Joe. Because we love it. If you think sailing is
only about sailing distances, winning races, where you sail, or the
type of design you prefer, you've missed the whole point.

Just getting out on the
water is not a deep desire.

Well it might occur to you that there are plenty of folks who love to
sail and getting out there is any capacity is great. I don't meet any
sailors, including the ones who cross oceans, who don't yearn to be on
the water, even for a day.

A fine ocean cruiser with AC's installed that work while underway,

If you feel you need all of that onboard, so be it. We've spent a few
nights aboard our 35s5 and love it. If we end up wanting the AC, we'll
drop in an genset easy as pie. The platform and harness are already in
place. But we probably won't need it. We will be sailing and have
exactly the right gear for local sailing, weekending and longer trips.
When we need a bigger boat, we'll get it. It will still be fast, unlike
your boat. And we won't spend years outfitting it. Joe, you're story is
quite old and tired, but I hope (against the odds) that it works out.
You must know that it often doesn't.

35s5 were made

Since I personally know people who go offshore in Beneteau's, Tartans,
J-Boats, Catalinas and Columbia's, I really have no idea of what you're
talking about. 35s5's have circumnavigated, Joe. All it takes is time.

Infact my LaBrisa is perfect for the type of sailing you do Robert

No it's not. We take weekend trips and almost always have 5-7 people
aboard for daysails. We make good use of the cabin and Thomas has his
own play area in the aft cabin.

The hull speed of RedCloud is 13 kts.
Whats the hull speed of a 35s5?

Joe, why do you do this to yourself? Why???? You must know this sort of
thing makes you look dumb, desperate and ready to go nova. Your boat
does not have a hull speed of 13 knots. A Swan 57 is barely over 9
knots fer cripes sake.

Our boat is faster. It's certainly nicer and newer. It's getting good
use TODAY and not waiting for some pipe dream to shake off 400 lbs of
rust. EVERY DAY YOU POST HERE is another day when Heart of Gold is
doing what we want her to, while your boat is simply a waste. And
you've proven that with your own words beyond any doubt.

Yeah all you lubbers are that way. You get all gitty about it. I was
that way the first few years, crossing the pacific the first few time,
in the N sea was exciting, but I've been living aboard boats since
1979. Sure Id like to get out crusing now, but other things are of more
importance right now. I can wait and pick when I want to go.

It's not nicer by a mile, newer=cheaper build.

Waste?????? waste is your aft cabin/ play pen. If you were raising a
sailor he'd be on deck learning instead of peeling bananas with his
feet in the hot & humid playpen below.

Waste is buying an overpriced cheaply buildt throwaway boat and Van.
But hey live for "TODAY" bubbles. Easy come easy go. I see fools like
you all the time.

And
you've proven that with your own words beyond any doubt.

Face it...bubbles....you're a KIA Soccer Mom with an overpriced tender
daysailor, and with the 3000 lbs of rail meat you claim to haul around
your slower and more top heavy than a fatty knees

Give it up. When it comes to sailing enjoyment and quality vessels

cruising you will be dealing with soccer games.

That's exactly right, Joe. While you posted to asa, we were out with a
couple of friends sailing. We ended up taking the 35s5 out in very
light air. We sailed with only the main up and the boat really sailed
smartly along, quite responsive as we watched a couple of boats give up

course.

I sailed in light air tonight, my new rudder preformed nicely, sailed
from the dock and back into the slip, no need for a motor like your

Sorry, Joe. We love sailing. The feel of it is what it's about. The
water against the keel, the feel of a well balanced set and the rush of
acceleration that a faster boat (not your heavy tub) can manage while
still being plush and liveable. Donal spoke of this regarding his own
Beneteau and he was right. That's why the owner of Doyle Sails raced
and bought one. I don't think he'd be too interested in your Dead Cloud
