What you think Doug, Ol Thom?

A buddie at NASA used a 5 axis CNC machine to mill it for me out of a
block of carbon fiber ;0).

Perfect fit and he says it should be slicker than the tail wing on the
Blackbird spy plane.

I will have to make sure to have the keel board down all the way in
shallow areas to make sure I dont rip off the transom. Thanks for the
tips.

Off to bend on the new sails.

Joe

Nice Joe,

One thought for you. When I done away with my "Kick-up" (
Congratulations) I set an extra grunnon (?) on the rudder so that I
could set it at a higher level when working shallow.

So, does NASA know that an employee is stealing blocks of carbon fiber, using
NASA facilities to machine it, and giving it to "friends"? Sounds like a felony
to me.

Did I tell you the solid block of carbon was suppose to be machined
into a landing gear strut for the super secret Aurora spy plane?

Good tip Thom, However I only have about another 3 maybe 4 inches of
transom space at the most to move up.

The keel board is about 15 inches deeper, so it should give plenty of
notice of shallowing up.

Excellent Joe. That very definitely looks wwayyy cool. Of
course, it could be just a bit stronger & lighter if it was
loadpath-oriented graphite skins over a honeycomb core....
didn't your friend tell you that ;)
Maybe he didn't have any of that stuff handy.

It certainly is lighter & stronger & simpler & cheaper
without the kick-up feature... but if you sail off a beach
very often, the kick-up is very handy.

Did you use the Eppler section? The parallel lead/trail edge
& round tip profile is kinda retro but still makes an
efficient foil.

Off to bend on the new sails.

Another good call. Did you get full battens? Please show
more pics, get your lady to take some action shots as you
plane by!

It is lighter, should be stronger and it's has about 1/3 more surface
area in the water.

Yelp used the Eppler foil profile elongated somewhat (no flatness).
Used CATIA to design it.

No not full batten, about the same batten length as the old sails. The
pocket not as deep and the main is loose footed, should be able to
flatten out much better heading upwind.

Now flying the BIG spinnaker single handed is going to be a learning
experience.
Might have to add a bowspirt.+
Ill get some pics soon.
