Interesting first race, typical spring sailing, cold, wet, and windy. Nice
to finish first, but corrected to third, missing first by forty seconds and
second by two! Folks here have said they didn't like handicap racing, but
I've thought about this for a while and have never heard anyone in the top
tier complain about ratings or cheating, locally, that is. When you campaign
the boat with relative strangers or folks from further afield is when the
trouble starts.

Hmm, summer is here and you're saying it's cold? It's been a
long cool spring down here, we just had temps in the 90s for
the first time (a month late) and getting the 1st gaggle of
mosquitos (2 months late). But it's been a great sailing season.

Hmmm again, in my experience it's the guys who finish 2nd &
3rd who bitch the loudest.

That's also true in one design.

It is fun to sprint out ahead of the fleet though.

Look at these results from last year's Bay Week, finished dead last in every
race but one. Terrible week, until the last race. We beat another J33, and
even though we only finished 4th in this race, we were whooping and
hollering like we'd gotten a 1st. They had a full crew, we had five guys,
the youngest aboard in their mid-40's. Now the skipper might bitch about the
results, but it would never occur to us to blame the folks beating us. I
will admit that I can't speak for everyone on this matter, and I've seen my
share of poor sports. We always congratulate the folks that beat us, when we
beat "Thing" last year they wouldn't even look at us. Yeah, it has been cold
here until just this week, on Tuesday I had frost on my windshield in the
morning! Typical Michigan spring, it goes from cool weather to 90 degrees
almost overnight, no real spring to speak of.
