I am hoping for some genuine help from a native guide.

My wife just got a new assignment in Corpus Christi. I
can’t think of any good reason to try to stay in Michigan
and watch while the economy here circles the drain.

We have an S2-7.9 on a trailer that we got to race and
trailer cruise. I know longer own a tow-vehicle and have
gotten by borrowing one for local moves.

I have found a J-24 fleet, but can not identify much other
keel boat racing and the charts (nice- have the available on
the web now) do not look like there is much cruising ground.

Question: Is it worth my while to drag this boat to Corpus
Christi/Rockford?

Wow, another Michigander bites the dust. Our realtor just informed
us that 65% of Allied Van Lines business in the past 2 years was
moving people out of Michigan. This is, of course, one of the
excuses he makes for not selling our house, among others...(too may
neew homes in the area, nobody wants horse property anymore, etc.)

You mean Rockport.

YES! Are you nuts or what? The area is famous for its winds. Top
windsurfing destination in the nation. Some of the bays are a bit
shallow in areas but you have tonns of places to sail and your close to
the gulf. You have Laguna Madre and the whole of Padre Island to
explore.

Plus the best fishing grounds in Texas. Speck trout, RedFish, crabs,
shrimp, oysters, ectectect. The rockport marina is nice, Port Aransas
has many nice marinas including a real nice city owned marina, and
Corpus has many nice marinas.

You can follow the bays and ICW all the way to the Rio Grande or the
Sabine. You might want to get a better offshore boat.

Let's hear it for Jennifer Granholm.

Corpus Christi is an awesome place to sail... I went down
there years ago for Olympic class races staged out of the
college sailing club; I assume it's been heavily developed
since those days but the wind & water probably haven't
changed much.

Keep the S2, it's a great boat and you can pretty much race
against J-24s boat for boat... and you have the advantage of
the lifting keel. There's a lot of snadbars & shallows down
there.

Before you make a decision, I think you ought to check out typical
prices on boats such as yours in Michigan and compare that with the
prices of those available in Corpus or Houston (which is a short trip
from Corpus), less the costs of bringing your boat down. - It's pretty
easy to do on yachtworld.com or the like, and you will find that there
are lots of boats for sale here. For example, if you will be sailing
offshore extensively, you might want to think about a somewhat larger
boat. Of course, if your boat is in good condition and you're
particularly attached to it, that's another factor.

Good advice, let me just add, whatever you do, don't get
fooled into buying a Mac 26M. You'll regret it, BIG TIME!

Most of Corpus Christi Bay carries 5' draft. Same with the
Lydia Ann Channel and Rockport Bay.

I've kept my boat in Corpus and Port Aransas. I have friends
in Rockport. All fine sailing locations.
